I was at motorsport ranch this past weekend for a BMWCCA organized DE... the track layout is shown obviously i expected it to take a toll on my brakes but didnt expect any fade (i am running the carbotech panther plus pads and silkolene pro race 2000 fluid)... however racing intensely in 104 degree weather didnt give the brakes enough time to cool and i started to experience pad fade towards the tail end of my session... not to mention over heated tires... now im not sure about what i can do about tire temps but i am strongly considering doing something about brake temps... there was a guy at the track who built his own brake ducts using $20 worth of parts and installing them in the front fender liner... he said the pyrometer readings showed temps dropped 400 degrees after a hot session... we have a few people on here with real racing experience... have you guys done anything for brake cooling?
yeah just toss the fogs, get mesh covers like me and go to the autozone on memorial dr. they have velocity stacks there, then all you need is a trip to home depot a dremel and some imagination. the crome velocity stacks make it look like the fogs are still in place. i haven't started this project yet but hopefully it will happen soon, then pics will be posted ok so the velocity stacks are the size of the bug eye fogs. but most exhaust silencers taper, or atleast the helix ones do. get my06 wrx fog covers with the foglight holes, you can have my silencer and find one more, cut the big part off and then cut the tapered end at the correct diameter. rely on home depot for the plumbing and cut an exit on the other side in the plastic tire well
! this is the start of it, i haven't cut the fender liner yet so it's only 33% done. homedepot can help with the plumbing
Have you considered RCE's kit? I may have a connect on them if you're interested, I may join ya on a purchase. Additional information from IWSTI here
My only question Milo. Did you make it thru the entire event and have brakes to drive home afterwards?
my brake issues at tally were purely due to my own errors... first time i didnt check my brake pads before going... second time, i had fluid issues that started within 3 laps
