I broke a wheel stud at last weekends race. I am going to replace it myself. Before I actually get the wheel off and start to work, I want to figure out what all I need to do. I know some cars you can just just turn the rotor until there is an open spot in the back and hammer the stud out backwards. There is also a shrouding behind the brake. Does the whole rotor have to come off first? or do I just need to take the shrouding off and hammer it out like I said? If the rotor has to come off, anybody know what size nut that is and what the torque specs are to get it back tight? So I guess I do need to take the rotor and caliper off...
it's probably best to take the rotor and the shroud off. I'm not sure if you can just hammer it out with any hammer, it's form pressed in there. I broke one once and there was no chance to hammer it out.
I will write up a DIY on this. I managed to take pictures of the process. It was relatively pain free.
