Does any one have an aftermarket front diff in there car? If so which one? I need to replace mine, so I’m weighing my options. I know you can’t go wrong with Quaife, but the price is kind of steep. I have heard good things about OBX Diff's, and there reasonably priced. Any info would be great.
There was a poping noise when turning. I had SOG look at it and they diagnosed it as the front diff binding up when turning. I went to get it tuned, put it on the dyno and couldn’t even get a good tune because the diff was giving out. They explained that on the road, all the wheels are spinning at the same speed. But on the dyno jet, each wheel is individually turning. It drives fine on the street, just annoying in slow turning. Plus I know im not putting all the power on the ground with a busted diff.
was your popping noise only when the car had just been started up or after it had been sitting for awhile? i ask because i am getting the popping when turning but it goes away after the car has had a chance to get fully awakened....tires warmed, oil heated up and transferring to all areas.
I am not doubting you, its just crazy. First time I have heard of that. Any idea how it happened? or what the previous owner did with the car?
Im the only owner. It just happens when you beat your car I guess. Maybe im unlucky. I dont know. Joel's wrx had the same problem 2 times.
It would seem like Joels problem is the transfer of the additional torque to those huge tires. It would put a lot more torsional stress on the drivetrain when the grip levels are that high. Do you do any racing? Keep us updated.
You might be thinking of the setup he has on his STI now. Im reffering to his old wrx. I dont remember what kind of setup he had on his wrx. I do go to the track, and live in the mountains(Not Really). The problem is without a doubt a direct result of how hard I drive my car. I would love to get an STI tranny, but unfortunatly I just sunk alot of money in getting the 2.5.
