Anyone want to help me swap the shocks on my wife's STi tomorrow night? It shouldn't take too long if I can get 1-2 people to help me out? The air tools will make it easy. I have a kegerator full of beer available as motivation.

Or, if you want to hang out and see what Öhlins fixed perch shocks look like, and drink free beer, that is ok too. I have about 5 gallons of beer left in the kegerator, so it should last a while.

I am looking to get started at 6:30pm or so, and will order pizza at 7:30-8:00pm.

Beer on tap is currently Moretti (italian lager that I picked up a couple of weeks ago for my b-day). I want to finish it up as much as possible, as I am getting a keg of Guinness at the end of the week.

They are fixed perch shocks with the same ride height as stock, and they are adjustable for compression and rebound. They are basically the only off the shelf option for stock replacement shocks for the 05 STi.

It is the best option that we could find and remain legal for SCCA solo2 A-stock class.

Nope, stock class rules allow: (what we are running)
    -shocks (Öhlins)
    -catback exhaust (Perrin CBE)
    -intake drop-in filter (K&N)
    -tires (Kumho V710)

The rest pretty much must remain stock. It is a good class for keeping the mods relatively minimal and affordable, and keep the car warranty.

Are Compression and rebound adjustable independently.

Nope, they are tied together with a single adjustment knob. This isn't optimal, but it is the only off the shelf solution for strut replacements for the 05 STi.

The Ohlins are easy to get revalved, so if you don't like the original configuration, you can have it fixed to exactly what you want. A lot of engineering went into these shocks, and they have some advanced valving features. I have heard that they are setup almost perfect out of the box.

just wanted to add this eventhough it's kinda off-topic because it does come up a lot...and seems to be a misconception of sorts...

Depends on what breaks, and if it is clearly due to abuse.

EDIT: In general, most dealers will work their hardest to deny warranty for even the simpliest issue if you have extensive mods on your car (read the s2k forum for more specific examples). If the car is basically stock, then the initial impression of the service people will be in your favor. But if it does end up with the issues being related to clearly defined abuse, then I wouldn't expect warranty coverage. Cars can have defects that cause the issues.

If I get the chance to, I'll swing by and get in your way. I'm not optimistic about being able to make it, though. I'll call before I head over if I do.

DHL messed up and only delivered the fronts today. The rears will arrive tomorrow.

It was good to see you guys today. I managed to help Rod (RADON) put his stock struts/springs back on his LGT, and after some pizza we put the fronts on the STi. The car feels much less bouncy. Once we get the rears on tomorrow, we will get an alignment, and work on the setting during the scca test and tune event on Saturday. Will also post some impressions of how they are after the event on Sunday.

We only put the fronts on and drove around the block, but the car feels a lot less bouncy on the bumps and such. We will put the rears on later today, and then figure out the settings at the test and tune on saturday, and event on sunday.
