Due to low registrations and deadlines to order the event materials, we have made the decision to cancel this event. The decision was made based on our registration experience with past events and vendor lead times. If you registered for this event and paid via Pay Pal, you will receive a refund check by 10/16/06. The check will come from the Subaru Challenge website administrator. We regret having to make this decision and we appreciate the interest of the 71 people who registered for the event. We also appreciate the support that the WRX Atlanta members gave the registration effort. I will be working with Milo to see how we can support WRX Altanta events in the future. Geez...with so many members in the Atlanta area alone between WRXAtlanta and NASIOC... :hsnono: Bummer!
I appreciate your efforts Randy, and I hope that Subaru is willing to try again next year. See you at the Gainesville event. -- Brian
randy, though it hurts me to see this event cancelled, i completely understand your point... i look forward to working with you in the future milo
Boo! There is no reason for it. You could have easily reduced the amount of giveaways and food in order to compensate for the lower registration. Its still a month away and we have been getting about 10 people per week extra registering. Bad decision no matter what anybody says.
There still is the Gainesville event on 10/21. If you really want to do the Subaru Challenge this year, talk to Randy, and they might be able to open up more spots. Mere and I are going to this. -- Brian
this event probably has no chance of breaking even even if registration was full... with about half the people registered, there are a lot of other hidden costs
Then why serve free food or have giveaways? Timing systems are not that expensive, especially if AR-SCCA is nice enough to let you rent them. I've seen many SCCA events run with less than 70 people and registration is about the same. I know the lot has a fee, but it isn't 2k+, which is what $35 x 70 registrants equals out to.
Well this is my first experience with the Subaru challenge...cancelled and no refund for a week after the event was supposed to take place. That is kinda crappy. I was all excited, had friends and family that had already requested time off to come watch the event and this is what I get. I hate to say it, but I will be hesitant to register next year and waste the money. Further, after signing up via paypal, I know they can send an instant refund through paypal with no fee to them. This is crap.
I was really psyched about this also....I just got the e-mail too regarding the cancellation. Well, maybe next year... Mark
Definitely not worth the 6 hour drive for me for 4 runs, regardless of how many Subarus will be there.
yeah, it is 5 hours from my house. We are going to stay there on Friday, and drive back on Saturday night to make it back for the SCCA points event on Sunday. -- Brian
