I'm still having the problem. We thought that it was initially caused by the fluid, but after it was changed the problem is still there. It's better, but still there. The orig. problem was that when downshifting from 6th to 4th or 5th to 4th when in high rpm's, and above 70ish mph, the gear would grind. Now if I am shifting agressively bringing the car near redline when entering the highway or in whatever situation, it will grind if I shift fast. 1st through 3rd, I can shift as fast as I like with no problem but 4th will grind when shifting that same speed... It goes into gear just fine but makes a nasty grind noise that I can't stand...

I've done some research and it seems that it's a common problem with 4th gear. I also read that subaru has since changed the acutal syncro's that they use because of problems like this. Is this true? If I take it in to get fixed under warenty, will they replace just the one? Will it be the newer updated ones? Might they replace all of them so that I don't see this problem with any other gears?

I want to take it in before too long to go ahead and get this problem fixed before it's too late so I could use some advice...

Any ideas what to expect when I go to SOG to get this repaired? Think they will give me trouble? If they do say they'll do it, do I get an appointment? A loaner car? eh?

Uncle Scotty is a guy on Nasioc who knows his ish.

HOWEVER WARNING!!!!! DO NOT USE UNCLE'S MIX IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE WRX.

STi have to use the stock fluids or something very similar. I can't stress this enough.

Also SOG would be more than glad to fix your synchros for you but it's not up to them at all if it is covered under warranty or not. It is up to the SOA rep that will in turn tell them whether or not it'll be covered and paid for by SOA.

Is there anything I should know before going to talk to them so that I'm more likely to have it covered? I know I did nothing out of the ordinary to the tranny to cause this but I don't know the best way to talk to them about it...

Also I worked with Neal last time I went in to have the tranny fluid changed. Seems like a great guy. I stayed around for a bit afterwards talkin to him about stuff... Its nice to find people like that that actually care at dealerships...

Really and truely it's all up to the rep of SOA. I don't see why you wouldn't be covered as you don't have any mods outside of exhaust right? However it's still up the rep at SOA and most people with ANY mods will not get covered thanks to all the douches that filed claims when their breakage was purely their fault from abuse and carelessness. Just go up there and make a good case and see what happens.:sx:
