I know those are R-compound tires mounted on a track car...but with that kind of offset, it still looks like a ghetto truck, function over form i suppose.

form follows function... not supposed to be a car that you would take to NOPI...

why such a big wheel is what i'm wondering? I'm sure you can get a lighter weight and just as wide wheel in 17's

Because the rolling diameter of the 285-30-18 is less than the 17" kumho v710 r-compounds. 285 is also a good width.

the next good step up would be 315-35-17 on a nice wide 17" wheel

I think that looks hot. The only thing that he can do better is to drop those crappy looking fender flares and get a true 22B Bodykit. Then it would look perfect.

Bodykits aren't legal for the SP autoX class, so you have to stick to fender flares and fender rolling.

    Form follows function...

Only thing I'd want to change on that car would be to add a
big brake kit to it. Look at those tiny little rotors compared to that wheel.
Maybe steal the Wilwood's (maybe Alcon's) off the bugeye behind it. :)

Would switching to a 22b bodykit be illegal. It is factory on the special edition 22b's in Japan?

It all depends on what class you run in. If you run SP classes, JDM stuff isn't legal. If you run in SM, everything is pretty much open, if I remember the rules correctly.

22b widebody would be pretty sweet. Combine that with an 05 STi swap + bunch of power mods, and you would have an insane ride.

I would rather build up a BSP STi with 17x11 wheels with 315/35-17 like Joel did, but there is no way that I would drop that much cash into my car and not have it streetable.

yep, they call the ones you have P45F as they are for the front, and the wider ones are P45R. The combo works great on a 350Z.
