I am curious if this is possible. I want to try it and see. I am quite a fan of the newer console design and figured why the hell not. From the pieces Ive seen laid out it looks like it could fit. I really doubt they redesigned the dash all together so...would anyone be willing to chime in or test fit with me and see? iirc, the guts of the 04 look similar to the 05 (except 05 no longer has the cup holder correct?) It would appear that to be succesful, I would need these pieces and possibly the bit of the console that extends to down the center to the floor. There's an issue with that though because of the placement with the e-brake and such. Alex
Does the 04 STi have climate control? If not you will need to get the HVAC controls from a car that does not have climate control. Also did you notice that the parking break handle is on the opposite side from the 04. So that will have to be relocated. Also notice that the bottom of the stereo/Hvac panel screws in and is not snapped in as the 04 is. It can be done but it will take some time to track down all the bits.
I covered the ebrake dilema above. And yes, the 04s have climate control. I dont know, I just cannot piece it together in my head. I just need them side by side to compare.
From what I have seen in the 04(had mine apart alot) and the 06 service manual, you will need every piece from the vents down to the e-brake. I will look at my 06 when I leave work and see if there is a point you can stop(like the shifter surround) and not have to mess with the e-brake.
Are the pics you have there from your car or an 05. They look the exact same as mine, and I mean exactly the same, aside from that being black and mine being silver.
Thank you! Odds are this is something I would not go through with unless I stumble upon someone who is gutting or has totaled their car and is willing to unload all of these pieces (assuming they survived) cheap. The pictures Ive posted are from a 2005 STI.
I'd like to do this someday if it's possible. It might be easier to swap the interior out of a newer RS since they dont have the automatic climate control.
Sorry it took so long. I sorta forgot. You might be able to stop at the shifter surround. It depends on how the 04 surround is shaped. Most likely though you will have to change the entire console from the AC vents down.
If you can find a wrecked WRX/STI to swap parts from it probably wouldn't cost all that much. I do agree that the 05+ console is much nicer...
