I may show up. Not going to run, just watch. All depends on how well a project at work goes over the weekend.

Does anyone know if the fairgrounds will be open Saturday? I was thinking about camping there. All of the other places seem to be pretty far from the site, unless anyone knows of some campgrounds close.

Why not see if someone will let you crash at their place the night before?

quick question: do they actually look at the SA date of your helmet? Ive got an older one, and I dont want to borrow one of theirs nor buy a new one just yet.

Yes, they do check helmets, or at least they have been. Don't expect to see me there though, I'm out of town.

If you are dead set on camping there are several campgrounds near my place on the lake...we are about 25-30 minutes from the fairgrounds.

I can't wait, my first auto-x. My father in law has now determined that he is going to build an AC-Cobra replica and take it autocrossing on occasion.

I registered as ESP 86 (I hope this will be MY permanent number). I just can't figure out if I"m morning or afternoon session. How do I check?

go to Schedules, and scroll down to the event. On the far right, you will see RBPYG, which opens a link to the run group information.

ESP runs in the afternoon, in the first group after the pro class.

I really want to do this, but I'm a little worried about my brake pads. They are getting a little squeeky sometimes and I'm just not sure if it would be a good idea. What do you guys think?

  32. miloman

    miloman Retired Admin

check to see how much pad is left...

I'm going to let the newbness free, how exactly do I go about doing that, and how do I know what's enough?

the best way would be to take the pad off... but u should be able to see it if u take off your wheel or maybe even with the rim on... im not sure though

my old pads had a groove down the center... if the pad was worn below that, i replaced them

Mine are kinda squeeky sometimes, but i still have plenty of pad left

if been auto-xing on them for a year with no problems what so ever:wiggle:

    PS. ive got stock pads

    hope this helps

85K but the pads were most likely changed by the previous owner but i dont know when

  40. Deke

    Deke Active Member

eh, well I went ahead and registered. I'll look into the pads situation and if they turn out to be nearly dead, I just won't run.

Just take the wheel off to look at them. Look against the brake disc surface. I would not recommend taking the pads or the knuckle off unless you have a brake spreader. It will be a PITA to get them back on. There should be two surfaces, the hard light gray metal surface which faces out and the darker gray surface that should be in contact with the disc. If you have anything above 1/8" you should be good to go.

you don't need any tools to compress teh brake pistons if you are just putting the old pads back on. If you want to install new pads it is a $4 tool from autozone.

Brakes are a 20 minute job.

yeah but I kind of need my rotors turned too. I'm planning on taking care of all of it in a couple of weekes over my fall break.

  44. clemsonscooby

    clemsonscooby Active Member

The brakes are often under pressure. That is why when you pull the knuckle off it can be tight. Not always the case that you need the compressor, but if you don't bleed them before you take it off you may need it.

Or...you can use a hammer to knock it back into place :D

Just use the old brake pad and a c-clamp, then tightnen the c-clamp till the brake pistons go back in.

    my 2 cents.

I will most likely be camping at www.twinbridgeslake.com in case anybody cares to hang out and drink some beer. Its about 8 miles from the actual venue. I think its Hogan lake on the map from mapquest.
