I don't think that's true. pretty sure a single size wheel can support multiple different sized tires, and the actual tread width is the tire's width, not the wheel.
Thanks all -- I'm sure whatever I get will look better than the RE92's...as long as there's no scrubbing. I'm curious how much of a weight difference there is between a 205/55/R16 and a similar 225/50/R16 tire. I'll keep looking around, surely it wouldn't be enough to have a significant impact. Thanks!
the more oversize the tire, the more roll you will have from the sidewalls. plus, its not like we need more acceleration grip, right?
you can but its not optimum 225 is optimized if using 7.5" rim for 6.5" rim I personally wont go hiogher than 215s
Going to the larger tire on a 6.5" will not make the car "look better" if that is what you are going for. It may slightly improve the handling over the 215, but not worth the price difference. If this was going to be a 225 race tire, I would definitely suggest it, because the sidewalls are really stiff.
Thanks for the replies Yea I want to get some Falken Azenis RT-615 and the only sizes are 225/50R16, 215/45R16, and 205/40R16. According to their chart the 225/50's are compatible with wheels from 6"-8" http://www.falkentire.com/rt615_sizes.html So these should be fine?? Also on a side note....which I should make a new post for but I'll throw it out: I've heard Azenis average around 7K miles...I want them for monthly AutoX's but only have one set of wheels so they would also be my daily tires (400 miles/week all over Atlanta). Waste of money?? Can anyone recommend an alternative that is equally agressive but a little more road-oriented? Thanks!!
