So I had a clicking/clink noise in the front of the car when going on or off throttle. I did some searching and found others that had this that had their axle nut not torqued down all the way. I did not have the tool for this so I took it up to SOG. A tech by the name of Bob worked on the car. He tightened up the axle nut and still did not find that it fixed the problem.

So he pops the hood and notices that the noise went away. He determined that the stock splitter was hitting the IC. So what does he do? Well, rather than just taking off the stock splitter with the 6 screws holding it on to see if that made a difference, he (without consulting me first) takes a large hammer to the splitter and beats the ever living shit out of the splitter while it is still on the vehicle. Now I don't know about anyone else but this is an issue for me. I talked to Jill about it and she was quite apologetic. She got some guy who is maybe a service manager to take a look. I explained to him that I was trying to keep my stock parts in good shape in case I ever decide to go back to stock or sell the car. I have kept my airbox, splitter, everything I have taken off the car. He just says, "All we can do is try to get it replaced if you ever decide to go back to stock." He did not offer to replace it...he did not say he would order me a new one....just brushed it off as if it was a not an issue and said that was the best he could do.

I am sorry but this just sucked. I mean taking a hammer to my splitter rather than just remove it...or at the very least come and talk to me first, but just beating on my car is not a good option. I have used the ole hammer before on cars, but by god it was my car and in this case it would have been very easy to just remove the splitter!!! This Bob guy did not even know that you could remove the splitter without having to take off the hood scoop. And he is supposed to be a Master Tech?!?!?! I trust Scott and Will with my vehicle implicitly. But do NOT let this guy work on your vehicle.

I am sorry about this. Replacing the splitter is not a problem at all. We've got plenty of stock splitters. Bob probably has some on bench right now. Bob is very much a "get it done" kind of person, and for a part that we've got plenty of them sitting around, sometimes he's a bit less communicative than we would like.

If you would like a new(er) stock splitter just let me know and we'll get you one.

If you are ever dissatisfied with anything done here, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will do everything I can to make it right.

It sucks you had a bad experience. Bob is cool though. I do agree he should have asked first. It seems like Scott will get you a new splitter so atleast you can replace the one you have.

    is the noise problem fixed?

Thanks Scott. I would have come to you about this but you were out sick today and Will was not at work either. I would definitely like the stock one replaced. Just so that I have one and not one that is beat to hell and back. I understand that he was just trying to get it done, but at the very least talk to the customer first. Had he come to me I would simply have told him to take it off. When I asked him why he didn't take it off his reply was, "You mean you don't have to take off the scoop to remove it? It has it's own bolts?" I then had to point out to him the screws that mount it to the hood and the bolts that mount the scoop. On top of that I had to pay to get my splitter beat down, lol. I appreciate that he figured out the issue, just not his method of fixing it.

    Edit: Yeah noise is gone...

Bob's always done top notch work on my car but I agree with Scott he tends to do things his way.

Maybe I just caught Bob on a bad day. I usually try to find a mechanic I trust to do stuff and stick with him. I think from this point forward I will wait on Will or Scott. Nothing against Bob, but I like to be involved in the decision making process, especially when it involves my car getting beat on with a hammer. Again, thanks to Scott. Even when sick he is still looking out for his customers!!

At least when you caught SOG on a bad day your car didnt end up on fire.

I've been here all day... I guess there is some rumor about me being sick. The wife and I went backpacking this weekend and I got some sort of bite or sting. It made my leg swell so I went to the doctor yesterday. He said "yep, something bit you. Take these twice a day." It's already doing better ;)

Let me make sure I have a stock splitter and I'll hold it for you.

Scott is super awesome! Helped me with a simple issue of a untightened fuel cap throwing a CEL just over the phone. <3 <3 <3

Interesting, Bob is one of SOG's master techs and a great guy. He's been doing this for a few years now. Sorry to hear about the problem.

I am sorry that that happened man...My car is up there right now being diagnosed with a chirping noise. They do awesome work up at SoG and have never had a problem yet. I found out from Steve that it is not the throwout bearing either. I should have an answer by Thursday when the SoA rep shows up.

I was wondering what it was doing there. I saw it over in Will's bay, with him sitting in front of it. Unfortunatly someone kicked me out from back there so I never got to go talk to him and see what was up.

Thanks again Scott. If you have one in stock I will grab it some time this week or on the weekend. Yeah Jill told me that the Bob guy was a master tech...surprised me when I had to explain how to remove a splitter. But I consider this 100% resolved with SS taking care of it.

They need to pay him more...now he has to be a liasion to wrxatlanta and provide customer service as well!! SS needs a serious raise!! If he sold the cars he would be doing it all!!
