Not too sure where to put this...it could be suspension or wheel tire. But the problem is a noise coming from the front right wheel, the clunk noise usually happens when coming off a speed bump or really any bump, RR tracks seem to get it to happen a good bit. Sometimes it happens when I hit the bump but that is lately a week ago it was just coming off the bump. I have the Tein Flex CO just a FYI in case it matters in the thought process. I got both wheels off the ground and shook the tire in question and could make the sound although not as loud but could feel some play...When I did the same to the drivers front wheel solid as a rock no play, just shaking the car. I have the girl chillin till I can get her to SOG Friday but just wondering if anyone had any thoughts?
How long have you had the Coilovers. Sounds like they may need to have maintence done. I believe that Coilovers have a set lifetime before they need to be revalved and have other things done to them.
if the sound comes from the top of the tower, then the top nut probably needs to be tightened some... use an impact and that should fix it if its coming from the wheel itself, then im not sure what may be causing it
No more than 12K on the CO's. The wheel does not move when I have the tires off the ground I sort of brace my chest against the fender, grab to spokes and pull up and down and get some play. Very small amount but using my arms is hardly like hitting a bump. the noise seems to be deeper in lets say when shaking the wheel the sound is under close to the middle of the car not near the wheel.
Just on bumps? I had a similar sound when my camber adjusting nut was un-tight, but it would happen while cruising.
Is it a clunk or does it sound like a squeak of sorts. The teins sometimes make a noise as the valve compresses going over bumps.
I had a similar sound and did what milo is suggesting. My right rear was clunking, it was because the top strut nut came a little loose. I took a torque wrench to it and tightened it down to spec which is 41 ft.lbs.
Dang Milo I still need to do this to mine. That clunking is getting old. The fronts are fine but mine are the rear. No way will I be able to get an impact on the rear so what you guys suggest? I'm gonna try to just manually tighten the crap out of the tower bolts.
You can get an impact gun on all the bolts if you remove the back seats. I would suggest a torque wrench anyways, unless the impact gun as torque ratings. Most impact wrenchs I have seen over torque things, which will break a strut. I tightened my rears last week with a torque wrench. I did have to take off the back seat though.
With a torque wrench it was easy. I have an 03, so I don't know if they changed it for your setup. I unbolted the entire seat though, so there was nothing left back there.
The seat belt thingy is right over the top of the bolt that sits closest to the door on my car. Makes it a PAIN sometimes and ya have to use a open box wrench to work with that bolt. I guess I could see about unbolting the seat belt thingy though.
You do know that you can take the seatbelt thingy off right? If you remove it, things are mucho easier
Okay, I tried to tighten the top nut of the TEIN CO's and it seemed to turn about a 1/4 inch and then went back like as spring made it go back. So it did not want to tighten. Is there another way to do this on the CO's?
Impact wrench on it's lowest setting man. Alex I never really looked to try.....I'll look man...thanks.
41 ft./lbs. for the top strut nut. If it springs back, don't keep tightening it, you may have something else wrong, because I have never seen that happen when just tightening it normally.
