I'm posting this up here for my friend as he doesn't have an account yet. Yesterday we made the haul from Hinesville to Atlanta to visit Doug at Topspeed. We've been getting tuned by doug for a while now and i am amazed every time we go back. Overall I am VERY Impressed with the 2006 wrx's. Well enough of the chit chat here is his mod list. 2006 WRB WRX Megan Racing Turbo-Back Turbo XS FMIC Short Ram Intake Vf-39 Set at 19# with a GFB MBC Ecutek Tuned by Doug Soon to be Sti Drivetrain lol.... At WOT the duty cycle was 96% on the injectors. AFR's were 11.5-11.8 across the board. Power delivery is very smooth and strong.
0.5 liter does make big difference at every powerband. I'm willing to give up last 500rpm for 500rpm earlier peak torque. :bigthumb:
Awesome man. That's even better than what I got with Ecutek, but I guess the turbo and TBE are a big part of it. I'm just using the stock turbo and axle back. Good job. :bigthumb: Oh yeah, don't let old Hinesville get you down.
Cool that was a pretty car he had (except the minor bumper rash). Very good results! How did the evo do?
yea brett's car is fun to drive now!! My friend eric also got tuned with an evo 9. His mods are.. Megan Racing turbo-back Megan Racing Turbo Manifold Turboxs HPBC Short Ram hks ssq bov w/ hard pipe ecutek He put down 334 hp and 340 tq but doug said his bc wasn't holding boost. It would go to 22 and drop to about 17 at redline. If he were to get a better boost controller like a hallman then he could have gotten about 15-20 more hp.
My question is why use a MBC if he has Ecutek and all? The stock boost solenoid will hold up to 19-20 psi.
they work well, but have to be tuned to use them. I had a gm bcs that he could have used but he didn't want to bother wiring it up or anything. with that bcs it holds alot more boost more consistently and increases spool up.
Gotcha, how exactly do you tune for these? I mean it would seem that it would just take a bit of learning by the ECU to determine where boost is and when to cut in the wastegate right? Maybe there is something I am missing. Time to go do some searching.
Where exactly is Topspeed? My friend went there to get his car tuned and said it was in Marietta/Kennesaw. I live there and only know of 1 shop in this area, Finish Line Motorsports
I have heard that and playing with the turbo dynamics and bust tables a bit. Still not totally convinced that I need one of these till the engine swap.
