Has anyone had any problems with the shield rattling REALLY bad at low rpms under boost? (i.e. going up a hill in a higher gear) It was bad enough that I just assumed it was the cat, and swapped it out. :squint: Since, I found that if I grab the shield and pull and let go, it comes frome there. All the bolts are as tight as they can go...

I had to put some foam tape under mine, but that's because I turned one of the bolts in half...the one at the very top....if all the bolts are tight, not sure why it would rattle?

My cobb heatshield did the same thing> I used a little zip tie to steady it and it worked like a charm

    Wouldn't a zip tie melt?

So where's the inherit design flaw?

maybe the fact that it's not as robust in weight and size as the stock one? i'm not sure....

  12. We have had many complaints from customers who purchased Cobb heatshields from us as well which is why we recommend Cusco over the Cobb. ;)

I had read that the cobb heatshield utilized a connection to the stock downpipe which goes away with any aftermarket downpipe.

The lowest point doesn't have a good mounting point, so when the engine shakes, that bottom section acts like the rear section of a poorly made exhaust system

    exhaust is 1500+ deg F
Turbo glows red after running hard

do you think a non metallic part in the close vicinity will survive ?

Stock Turbop heat shield has several mounting points to prevent rattle or movement FTW

Yeah the cobb does too, it just needs better mounting. I really think some washers or something should help. There has to be some way to secure it. I have one, but thinking of not putting it on and just wrapping the DP instead...bag the hot side of the turbo and you are done.

I have some heat reflective material from work, and I'm going to put a few layers of that on the under side of the shield.

EDIT: Just finished putting it back together, and it doesn't rattle, or even move for that matter.
