It depends on the class. Any of the non-street tire classes (stock, street prepared, modified, and prepared), you can run pretty much any tire on the market. The street tire classes have a lower limit of what your treadware can be.

Personally, I wouldn't suggest jumping right into an R comp without learning to autocross your car on street tires. R comp's are fun, but they can be ruined very fast by pushing too hard, plowing, over-braking, etc... I know I made all of those mistakes very frequently starting out, which is why I was glad I started with a 280 treadware. They lasted me much longer while I was learning. I am not sure what level you are at, but just a consideration.

Kumho V710s are my favorite :) We run 275/40-17 tires on my wife's car (stock 05 STi wheels)

    Josh,
I guess the subtle hint didn't take. Slow down when you post, use punctuation and try to type a little more accurately. Not trying to be a downer, but it makes it harder to read the post when it is a huge run on sentence and has common words misspelled. Just a friendly reminder, please don't take this as a put down or anything negative! :) Especially since you must live right next to me as I am in Loganville (really Grayson)...

    See the below example:

Thanks. I am new at this, have never done it, but looking to get in to it. I talk to the guys at kumho every day and was asking them about some tires for my car car and they was talking about some really good prices on some of the v710s, so I figured I would ask some of you guys that do this all the time.

If you can get some good prices on the V710's then share the wealth with the board. As far as yourself goes, since you are new, see if they can get you some good prices on the ASX tire. That is a great way to start. Once you have worn those down, you should know a lot about autox and be ready to start getting the R comps. Otherwise, you will just be burning through the R comps too fast and not learning as much as you could on street tires.
