Any WRX owners with BBK?

I've been always unsatisfied with my wrx brakes. I upgraded pads, fluids, and SS lines, but still doesn't really make me happy. One of most thing that I envied from STi was the brembos. ahhh... what a beaty...

My car itself about 38k miles and hawk HPS pads have about 12k on them. Front rotors were turned twice already. I do feel fades after couple hard stops. Plus it seems like front rotors are slightly warped bc there is slight vibration during med/hard braking. Here goes my excuse to buy new parts. LOL.

I'm looking @ Stoptech BBK, which was designed to work with stock rear brake. I overlooked on my brakes so far. i'm making about double amount of power compare to stock, but yet only slightly improved the brake system. Hopefully, I can save enough money till next spring for bbk + new wheels/tires. That shall be very good b-day gift to myself.

I have the Stoptechs on my STI and my brother has the Willwood 6 pistons on his Bugeye. Both work really well, Both are expensive, Pads and rotors are less expensive for the willwoods if you are planning on tracking the car.

I have PowerSlot rotors on my bugeye and I love them!!! They've saved my butt many of times, easily have paid for themselves at this point....SubyDude.com runs brake specials every now and then....

Well...How interested would you be in the stock brembo fronts? I was looking at upgrading mine to something a tad bit different. Send me a PM! I also have the sti rotors (5x100) if you just want some rotors and will pick up some calipers (may be cheaper with them split).

My opinion of bbk's for WRX's are that you really don't need them even for track days. On stock rotors, aftermarket pads, and lines, I can stop hard enough to feel the ABS kick in. If you are doing track days, I would think vented rotors and some sort of ducting for cooling would be the only thing needed. Going to bbk also limits the tires and wheels you can buy. I like the idea of being able to stick with a 16" wheel. Small overall diameter with a 45 treadwall, which means faster acceleration. There is also a larger amount of tires available for 16" than an 18" wheel. They definitely look cool though.

I was thinking about getting sti front brembo, but it'll throw off brake bias which will result longer stopping distance. of course I can get both front and back, but that'll be too much unneeded $$$ and labor hours.

I think 17" will be best compromise with lighter weight of 16" and less sidewall flex of 18". But honestly, I want just little bling of bbk and 17" wheels (it'll be either rota boost or sti bbs). Onlything that I don't want to do is buying one step upgrade now then I ended up doing another upgrade on top of it. At my power level (~300whp), it'll be good to overwork on brake side.

What about the Subaru 4pots? Thats what the 06+ has. They also have the 2pot rears. Even with stock pads I can brake hard enough to feel like my eyes are trying to leave their sockets. Also after some "spirited" drive at the dragon and surrounding areas I had no fade.

as far as i know the STi only weighs like 200 lbs more than a wrx.

I have an 06 and the brakes could still be a bit better, wouldn't mind going with an sti setup but aren't those rotors for 5x114 and would they fit under the stock 06 wrx wheel? Or are there sti brake setups that exist on a 5x100 setup?

You'd have to find 04 sti takeoffs for the 5x100 setup.
I also think you'll have to be on at least the same wheel setup as the BBS's to clear them, I don't think
the stock 06 wrx wheels will clear.

That to me would be a better option than going with the larger diameter rotors and all.

4 pot/2 pot is more about control, it won't necessarily cure fade completely since it has the same rotor size as 04 wrx. It'll help If i do both 4pot in front and 2pot in the back. If I do that, the price is too close to just stoptech front bbk which doesn't require any rear side upgrade.

    Subaru 4/2
    $760 (Front w/rotor) + $680 (rear) + S/H = $1440 + S/H

    Stoptech BBK
    332x32 $1600 shipped
    328x28 $1500 shipped

On going price of STi brembo take off for front runs around $600 for calipers and +-$100 for rotors which are used. But as I stated earlier, you need to get rear calipers as well for brake bias balance, which will cost another 700-900 easily.

stoptech looks even more attractive now, right?

LOL, I make the stoptechs fade. I highly recommend the Brembos as an upgrade, they are much better than the stock brakes, you can run the brembos in the front only but you are going to need to do some experimenting with rear pads to get the balance right.

Keep in mind with enough power and speed anything will fade. I'm running the 332x32 stoptechs with Performance friction PF01s which are some serious pads and I can still make them fade.

if we don't factor in money....

Slowwrx, how does stoptech (332x32) compare to stock sti brembos?? how about 332x32 to 328x28??? I highly doubt that i will drive/track my to the point where I will fade stoptech bbk with track pads. haha I just want extra safety margin as I upgrade brake system.

Stoptechs are freakin awesome, way way better than the factory brembos. I've had way less problems with fading. If you are going to bother upgrading I would go with the stoptechs.

Also, an important bit of note. The WRX bearings are not designed for the extra heat generated by the BBK's. Either regrease the bearings with higher temp grease or expect them to crap out on ya after some use.

Personally, if I upgrade, I am going with these. Look at the weight :keke:
