which should I go with? I really don't want to get pulled over. Is there really a huge difference between 20 & 35%? and what is the harassment factor with 20%? I'm getting them done at Sound Sensations this Sunday; so suggestions are appreciated.
I like 35% and have done it to my car and my wife's old wrx. IMO 20% is too dark at night, but others may disagree Also, 35% will remove any chance of tickets due to 20% tint. -- Brian
Why not 25-30%...27.5 ? Youre not going to be pulled over for 20% IMO, its too difficult to just "discern" that on the spot when you're driving by. Regardless, whenever you get pulled over, tinted or not, its the correct procedure to roll all 4 windows down anyway.
20% here. I really don't know that 35% does anything useful. I've never had a problem with the police out of it, even while getting pulled over. I think that if you're smart (should you get pulled over), you'll roll the windows down to help ease the police officer's sense of self-security.
35 is enough for me! I love it. 20 is too dark and not legal. Any excuse they can use to pull you over isn't good. They may find more things you're doing wrong after they get you pulled over... if you know what I mean... Like driving without pants...? Edit: here's 35%. Like I said, I love it.
My friend and my girlfriend both have gotten tickets for it. Not on top of something else either. Pulled over and ticketed just for tint. The cops probably hoped to give them a DUI too.... :fawk: but they weren't drinking.
real question should be Ticket or NO Ticket i got one in my honda, even pulled it off and still got a ticket
Weather or not you get a ticket is gonna have a lot to do with how much attention your drawing as you pass a cop. Also, where you spend most of your time. I had 20 on everthing but the front and an 8" brow up there with a black interior. You couldnt see in that thing day or night. But then again I just cummute from ITP to Duluth for work, the rest of the time Im midtown/downtown. Never had any trouble, even at odd hours around lots of cops. I think you're more likely to have trouble in the "suburban" towns: Duluth, Roswell, Marietta, etc. My current ride has like 35 or 40 around it. hate it. Im gonna take it off and get 20 put on.
hmmm...decisions, decisions. Oh btw, Alex the reason I can't get 30 or 27.5 is because it only comes in 5, 20 & 35% I asked the same thing. He offered 20 over the phone but said I should check them both out when I show up. I'm on probation of all things and don't need any more trouble......but then again :naughty:
At first i was really scared about gettin 20%. But now i'm really happy with it. no tickets so far. Yea, sometimes its hard to see when i'm backing out of a driveway or something but otherwise i think it's fine.
lol, i was going about five miles an hour when i was pulled over. that was the only reason he pulled me over, according to him. but in the end, it is up to you. but, IMO, it is not really worth it.
Dude I went with 50% on my WRX. It is truly the best way to go because you can still see out of your car. You get some good looks and sun blockage without sacrificing any functionality. I say that knowing people will disagree, but I've had cars with 25 and 35 and they were both too dark for me. Now with 50% visability I can see to back up even without any street lights and curbs in an intersection are never a mystery either.
My wife has 20 and got pulled over while doing the speed limit, getting passed by other cars on the highway. Some cops really look for tint...they think that people have something to hide. Having been there I knew guys who would rather pull over someone for tint than give a speeding ticket because they thought it was a better chance of getting drugs, etc. Me personally, I love the way 20% looks, but you will hate it the first time you get a ticket for it. 20 is also a little dark at night. 35 is what I had on my patrol car and it is even kinda dark at night but not too bad AND it is legal.
Lot of subys in Washington I bet. I don't think 50 is what I'm looking for, need it a little darker but I've decided to go with the 35% now. I've made up my mind. thanks for the suggestions everyone
Washington truly is Suby country. I had no idea they were so POPULAR up here. You literally can't get on any public roads without seeing them. Especially Outbacks.... they do work well in the snow and rain though. Have fun with the darkness.
I wouldn't trade my 20 for the world. I was thinking about going 35 but the guy at the tint shop talked me into 20 (no price difference so he wasn't just trying to get more money out of me ). I couldn't be happier with it. Never had any problems with the law. My dad's is getting his Z done with 20 on tuesday too. Speaking of which what is the current tint law? It changes all the time. I'm pretty sure when I had mine done there wasn't even a law at the time.
In most cases tint by itself isn't probable cause for a stop. Forget to use your blinker or any other generally small, overlooked infraction and there's a much better chance you will get a ticket though. Some of the cops and MP's I know look at people with dark tint as people who like to abuse the the loopholes so even though it's not easy to ticket someone for tint, you can just about always get someone for Too Fast For Conditions, Following Too Closely or any number of "Failures". I won't ticket folks for tint though. The great part about our country is if you want to be hidden then you have the freedom to do so.
Interestingly enough, my neighbor moved out here from Sandy Springs about two years ago with 20% tint on his windows and never had a problem. Within 2 months of living out here he and his wife each had a ticket for tint thats too dark, so it's very situational. (So I went w/ 35% too)
I got pulled over for 20% in my subie, got a big ticket. so i stripped it. and they dropped the fine. but then again i also got pulled over in my mom's accord for tint and u shoulda seen the look on the officer's face when i told him it was legal and he still proceeded to check it, only for the meter to read 37. i kinda chuckled as i rolled the windows back up and drove off.
I have always had 5% on all of my vehicles since I was 18. I didn't tint them all myself, some already had the tint on there and I just left it. I have never gotten a ticket for tint, for 7 years. Although one time my friend drove my car and he got a ticket (which I paid). If you ever get pulled over, just roll down both of your front windows. It has always worked for me! After getting used to dark tint, i think 35% would seem to me like no tint at all. I would say go darker that 35%!
why bother with the possibility of getting hassled though? particularly if you're driving through poh-dunk county. just go with what's legal, it's less stressful
