What's involved? Maybe WJM knows off the top of his head.

    I'm thinking.....
    07 STi 6MT
    STi driveshaft or auto driveshaft
6mt tranny mount (you can use the 5mt mount but it sits slightly higher/lower)
6mt clutch and flywheel(5mt one works too with minor modification to bell housing)
    6mt clutch fork
tranny stubs, circlips, and axle seals (if you want to keep the stock axles for 02-04 guys)
    shift linkage and assembly
shift boot (or modify your stock one to fit)
    5qt tranny fluid

Now anyone know if it is hard to do the tranny stubs, circlips, and axle seals? I know for a fact the 06 STi has 3.54 rear so you can keep the stock WRX rear but what about the 07 STi?

Nope the common misconception for the Subaru is the stepper gears. The final drive is 3.9 but the actual rear is 3.54 just like the WRX for the 06 STi. Hopefully the 07 is the same. This lets you keep the stock WRX rear assembly making the 6MT swap even cheaper. No R&P needed. Now if you get 04/05 6MT you have to either go R180 or swap out the R&P.

06 and 07 rear diff are diffrent, Ill make you a good deal on a lightly used 06 6mt only 9000 "easy" miles

Yep, 07 was equipped with slightly longer gearing iirc from what patrick told me.

I know the gearing was different but is the rear different from the WRX. You see if you had an 06 6MT then you don't have to do anything with the rear end. I hope that was the case for the 07. Man Subaru is bad for changing things up in such short time frames.

It might not be that easy. The 06 and 07 speed sensors are located differently, I think, from 05 and previous years.

There is a guy on Nasioc by the name of wrinkleboi and he has installed the 06 6MT. To quote him

Matt... you suck. I'm still hurting from the 39, then you taunt me with your TMIC, and now this. What's next?!

I'm going to end up in the poor(er) house because of you.

I just read that the 06 and the 07 Rear ends are both 3.54. Can anyone confirm. Only the gearbox itself is different and only the gears ratios are different from what I understand. Man I may forget the PPG totally and go 07 six speed if the price is the same.

I dont know about the 06s specifically but the 6speeds always had a 1:1 center diff which is why they had a 3.9 rear end. The 5spds have a 1:1.1 center diff which is why they use a 3.54 to keep the same final drive.

Dont forget a DCCD controller or the center diff will be running completely open.

With 06 they went to the 1.1:1 on the 6 speed and gave the 5 speed the 1:1.

As for the DCCD, it defaults to 35F/65R without the controller.

Should have asked for the price of the DCCD controller. Last I heard it was $2500ish with the harnesses and such.

Yup until a tire starts spinning and then it defaults to open. Most guys are very unhappy without the DCCD controller.

Man I have so much I want to do but these prices are down right redicoulous. I wouldn't mind the STi tranny but with the 4th gear problems they always have I dunno. Maybe by the time I get to having the money there will be some wrecked 07's out there.

Why just 07? Any MY that isn't jacked up should be just as good as an 07.

07 has different gearing that is suppose to be better for going down the 1/4th.

Way better gearing. 4th tops out around 117 mph on the 07's. Talked with Andrew from AndrewTech and it isn't that big a deal to find a 06 tranny and upgrade the gears to 07 spec. They are like $80 for each gear (dunno if he meant each gear or gear set) so 1-4th can be swapped. I dunno what cost would be for the labor but I would think it would be nearly the same price for 5 speed PPG's vs the 6 speed and the 07 gear swap.

Oh LiquidForce if you are reading this give Andrew a call. Your 6 speed JDM unit may well be switched to 07 gears easily. He knows these inside and out and the JDM units are nearly identical to the USDM units except for 5th and 6th gear from what I understand.

I thought it was around $700, anyways some guy on Nasioc made his own controller and is selling them now for half that.

    Neetronics unit FTW.

I'm ditching the 07 tranny idea....too much involved and PPG's from Andrew is foolproof and cheaper. Much better in the long run....I enjoy my 5 speed too much.
