just wondering what are some ways ppl use to smoke out their tail lights .. Some ppl told me about sprays that u can buy on ebay and also tint paper u can also buy online... just wondering how u guys do it .... thanks
For the 04 and 05s the spray will be the easiest way, but it is defintely more permanent mod. With the film, you could take it off much easier, but to tint the bubble will be really difficult.
Sorry, didnt feel like loading up IE (I hate it), so I will post under this s/n. I just finished another set of tails for an 05 wrx. With the 04/05 lamps the dilema is the bubble in the bottom portion of the lamp. It can serve to be a major pain if you want to do a full smoke. This is exactly why we (tenth st jdm) are offering to tint the clear portion. It really cleans up the rear and adds that sense of style for your nighttime shots. Here are some pictures. If you're interested in having me do the service for you, just send me a PM and we'll talk. These photos are with my 20% tinting...
^ ohh .. appreciate it .. but, I am planning on smoking out the whole tail lights.... (eventho the bubbles seem really difficult)...trying to do it myself to save some money .. yeah thanks for the pics .. albert
Then I'd recommend painting them or see if 420 is willing to swap his + some cash (his are fully painted).
Its definately doable, but it takes paitence. With any sort of overlay you're going to trap moisture underneath it even using fair amount of heat. The trick is a safety pin. If you end up with moisture, poke a teeny tiny hole and work the moisture out, the vinyl will seal itself up accordingly.
thanks everyone! I would like to just spray them but, i heard cops will give you a lot of shit for it if your tail lights are smoked out ... and I don't want to end up buying new tail lights just for dat ...
I have had my tails smoked for about 4 months now, never had a problem. Had a cop follow me the other day up 400 and he didn't pull me over. If you are interested in swapping, I would be willing to do that. If you want to come check them out, let me know. They don't look as good on a Blue car as they will on a Black or White.
At my work we use a company called Lamin-X. They have a computer program that will cut out the product to fit directly for your car in what ever color you want. I should be getting some more in this week and installing it on my personal car. The company is all over the internet and ebay but he is from blue ridge, ga. so he's close for us. Good company good product.
Hmmm... I may be actually thinking about it... I may have to hit up the short curly guy at 10th street
Ive got a full overlay in stock right now for the 06s if you want to drop your lights off. It will not be Milo / Mark grade dark though (that was a special order) -- 20%, this is more 30% or so. Let me know!
I traded with someone who had to return there car to stock. They were already painted when I got them.
my neighbor just smoked mine out with overlay my brother got me for christmas. it took him a while to do it and there are still some little bubbles that my brother is going to work out today. the bubbles are little and aren't noticable until you walk up close (but they still have bugged me for the last couple days since he's done it). i think my brother got mine off ebay- i'll ask him. i like using the overlays just cause it's easy to reverse.
The difference is that the 06s don't have the round bubble on the tail lights. It makes them much easier to tint, The 04/05s have a buldge at the bottom of the tails that make them very, very difficult to tint with film.
Take a safety pin to them and work the moisture out from there. Just poke a tiny little hole in the vinyl.
DIY?? I am just thinking about spray painting the tail lights .. any suggestions on what spray paint to use??
If you are going to spray yours, at least look at mine and see if you would want to trade. I don't really like the way they look on my Blue car and would like to go back to stock.
