I think its because their maps aren't tuned for aftermarket intakes. only the OEM one.

 

They were designed with the stock intakes so you'll probably lose a little smoothness and/or power with an aftermarket. Shouldn't be huge, but you might want to put the stock one back on until you can get a tune if you're worried about it.

well just came back from my test drive after reflashing & i do have a CAI on there .......no problems....WOW!!!!:bowdown: Stage 2 FTW!!!!

 

yeah I got mine back from Cobb about a week and a half ago. They worked out all my bugs and now.... like you said WOW!!!! Cant wait for a new turbo and Scott to work his magic.

 

not that you can see, feel, or hear. but what about some issues that you could potentially could have that you can't see, feel or hear?

personally if my tuner said to not run anything but a stock intake, then i wouldn't. especcially if i'm running a crappy OTS map. i'd much prefer to be safe or at the very least get a protune asap

 

i can't WAIT until they release the '07... "sometime in Q1 07"... blah.

 

I researched this when i got my AP when they were first released. What i found was that the short description says stock intake only, however the detailed description says that you can have the stock or COBB's Short ram intake.

If cobb's SRI is compatible i can only imagine that all others built to similar specs should be compatable as well, but COBB being a manufacturer of parts as well as a distributor states that you should use either stock or CObb intake as both protection(incase something does happen) and as a marketing strategy (to promote their intake)

Keep in Mind
One selling point of the AP is the it allows the ECU to retain its ability to adjust different parameters for safe operation anything trivial such as an intake that works with a stock ECU should IMO work with the generic Cobb map

 

I wouldn't call it a selling point of the AP. Since the various solutions all flash the map data rather than brand new ECU code they all work the same way (openecu, ecutek, AP...). But you are right, the ECU can compensate for smaller stuff pretty easily though it's not necessary ideal.

I think Cobb is saying not to use some random aftermarket intake because they'd be the ones blamed when some ricer slaps on a $20 ebay MAD TYTE INTAKE YO and their car runs like crap.
