So as not to continue screwing up the other thread...as matt pointed out (I forget the topic sometimes when I get good interesting discussion). I would like to see if anyone has some experience with some of the larger turbos on the market. Everything from 20g on up. Specifically, I am trying to plan ahead and figure out which turbo I am going to be using when my 2.5 setup is ready. Might as well plan out all the expenses ahead of time. What I would really like to find is a Gt30R sized turbo that is a super fast spool up. I have been looking for a twin scroll GT30R but have not seen anything just yet. Matt's setup sounds about as close as I have found. It was a GT30R with a T04S hotside. What I am mainly looking to do is get a good hard core street car. Not necessarily a drag queen, just something that is going to spool up quick and not have to launch at 5000 rpms to have good take off, but still hold good solid boost to redline...in short the perfect turbo! Price is a consideration as well, the rotated setups get crazy expensive. I mean come on....$1k for an up pipe and a down pipe? Someone needs to develop an ebay rotated setup...something in the $300 range for up and dp. I mean we are just talking about exhaust pipe with some flanges! Anyone that has some dyno sheets of various setups would be a great help...it just helps me visualize what it might drive like! Compressor maps are good too!
I've been looking for the same thing. Couple of turbo's I've been looking at: Element Tuning GT52 Green Frank 50 SZ49/55 GT30 (.63 & .82) 20g??? Evo3 16g It'll be interesting to see what others say.
If only we could get a nice sized turbo that will spool like the S20DET's do their turbos. Our shop 240 spools the daylights outta the GT30R on it.
I got to drive an STI with a green and meth the other day and it was really nice, with the meth it pulled about as hard as my car does on straight pump gas. It spools about 100 rpms faster but it doesnt have that punch up top that the 30R does.
i should have my SZ65 installed within the month... the feel should be very similar to an FP red, which out of all STi's i have ridden in, has been my favorite turbo... on pump gas, u can feel the red (7cm) kick in around 3500 rpm and by about 3800, ur planted hard in your seat... keeps pulling till redline
Yeah I saw the GT52 and the Franch 50 as well. I also saw on Turbochargers.com where they have flanges for most turbos for like $20...could have an UP and DP welded up and possibly make things a bit cheaper! $1000 for the GT30R then just need to get some fab work done by a friend of mine who is a welding god! Edit: Question for Matt...is a rotated mount in the same location just rotated? I mean could you use a stock mount UP and then just have the flange replaced and rotated on the same axis?
Dan at Batlground actually already has an upipe adapter jigged he did one for my car and for Jasons 35R car, they work great, He was selling the whole kit turbo, upipe adapter, downpipe, wastegate dumptube, and oil lines for $2700 I think. I believe he said he could do it installed for like $3000. Its been a while since I talked to him about it so those prices aren't exact, it would probably be best to email him and talk to him about it. Matt
Rotated mounts can't use stock mount up pipes. The flange on the up pipe has to be rotated as well. I'm thinking of ditching the td0gh 20g w/ 8cm hotside for something like a SZ49 or SZ55. I dunno if I want to go as big as a SZ65.
next time search before u post.... noob ... sorry, with all the nasioc talk goin on lately, i had to say it
I was actually thinking of that. I may have to check and see how much they are charging for the up adapter. Then I just need to get a rotated downpipe fabbed up....and hmm...oil lines any different or coolant? Coolant I imagine could just use a longer or different shaped hose what about the oil lines? Maybe I can make this GT30R work yet. I am going to try to do most of my work myself just to save on cash. Less cash I have to spend on labor means more I can put into the setup! Plus there is that personal satisfaction you get from a finished job!
I am currently running a 3" SZ49 with the fatboy wheel and I couldn't be happier. Very streetable with plenty of midrange, which pulls to redline. The SZ55 or 65 would probably be that much more intense, but I wonder if lag is noticeable.
We need a dyno sheet database. Something that includes psi, tuner, hp, tq (at what rpm) and afr and where the images can be saved here on site somehow rather than off site where they WILL most likely fade.
There is one here. The more and more I look at the Element GT52, the more I like it. I want a BB turbo for some reason. Maybe Jerry will work some magic for me up at Deadbolt.
