Swaybars: need help

I picked up whiteline adj f & r bars and put the front on with no problem (dropped the subframe)

The rear bar has got me twisted (it's a 24mm adj for 06 sti, and i have a 07 sti)

the damned thing just doesn't seem to want to fit. when i snake it above the exhaust and get it in position, it looks fine. then i try to secure the brackes to the body mounts and the middle of the bar hits the forward part of the spare tire bulge...

well that's not entirely accurate, what it does hit are these little flanges that protrude out from the spare tire buldge. they look like they are there to mount something to, i just have no idea what. and they're welded, so they don't come off easy

anyways, these are keeping me from getting the bar mounting brackets close enough to the body mounting brackets for a clean mount (in fact, i stripped out one of the body brackets trying to force it on there). even if i had succeded in forcing it on, the bar would be in tense contact with these "flanges".

has anyone had this problem or know about these flanges being an add-on for 07?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Sorry, no 07 here, but the only problems I have had is getting the endlinks bolts back through. Good luck.

Is it the bracket to mount the rear diffuser? If so, Id just cut that biatch off.

 

i was thinking that might be it, i need to lay the diffuser back in to see if they are.

wouldn't 06 sti drivers chime in on this as a common problem though?

Those are the brackets for the diffuser.

You're not trying to put the bar in backwards (rotated the wrong way) ??

 

i don't think so, i'm just putting it in there the same way the stocker was. although i have heard this: some people can mount the bar brackets with the car on jackstands, and some don't succeed so well, so i'm getting some ramps to test that theory out.

originally i thought that the bar would mount to the body lifted (because they were close together and on the same piece of steel) and then lower it to connect the endlinks (which is how i did the FSB).

 

I thought the suspension had to be loaded (e.g. on ramps) to get the sway bars in... :dunno Good luck and keep us posted, I'll be swapping mine out at some point later in the year.

 

I have no idea how to help, but just to be nice I'll trade you cars so you don't have to worry about it. My '03 already has a set of Cobb sways...

I just finished the sways on mine about 30 minutes ago on jackstands. The rear was easy compared to the front...

 

we'll i put it on ramps saturday, and the bar went in with plenty of clearance. thanks for the input guys... so on the 07 from my experience, you can mount the front on stands but not the rears.

well, i've already got a set of tein flex coilovers sitting in my garage, but tein is really slow to respond on the lower brackets that i need to make them fit.

 

brackets to make them fit?? My TEIN's fit with no problem. whats different?

 

wjm told me that i needed to change the lower brackets out from the 04 wrx to the 07 sti for proper fit.

 

^^ you will need to. They will not fit without them.

 

if you have the car jacked up then drop it down and back up onto some rhino ramps, this will change where everything sits and make it line up a little easier, if not then i don't know what to tell you, but the clearance could be where the suspension sits and not the underbody of the car.

i wonder if i perhaps did something wrong, ha. my rear sway went on in less than 15 minutes with no help. of course mine is an '02. don't know if that changes anything...
