This run went pretty much like all the others, a lot of people are interested and want to go, but in the end, its just me and Devon(red Evo) again. It was fairly quiet up there today, but the gravel was no joke. Everything ended up going pretty smooth except for my little whoopsie on 129. It was my first time going up there since all the suspension work, and I was just pushing and pushing trying to find the limit. I finally found it on one of the hairpin turns on 129, it was slightly pitched sideways going smoothly until I picked up some gravel. The ass end kicked out on me and I tried to keep it sideways, because I couldn't see what was around the corner in the other lane, so it stayed sideways until I countersteered and it kicked back towards the edge, I had to again countersteer the other way and spin it all the way around so I could reduce the momentum. All this happened at about 65-70mph, Devon had enough car control as to not hit me as I spun. Other than that, it was really fun. His car is pretty much an equal match to mine, and our driving skills are so closely matched, that we could go 100% and not have to let off or let the other catch up.
Nice guys, good to hear no damage was done when pushing the limit. I have to say it's a good idea to find the limit of your car, but I'd have done it in a less dangerous area. I'll keep looking for the next date, I really want to roll up there. I love being in the mountains.
Yeah... It wasn't planned either, its just when your tires get stickey up there, they pick up all the gravel and its like driving on marbles.
That's understandable. Maybe you and your friend can come out on the 11th...see the Link. It's right after the dynoday at BG. I'd be a definite 3rd.
u got lucky man... i wasn't http://wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5463 in the end, there are a lot of factors that are out of your control on public roads... it is definitely not the place to learn the limits of your car
I was thinking about that right after it happened. I believe we even passed the place that you wrecked on 180
i saw a group with 4 evos and a blue sti on sunday in the walmart parking lot. i bet they just did the same run. did you see them?
Were you the owner of the 06 black wrx on walmart parking lot? I was riding with the evos this weekend, my first "mountain run". We saw like 3 STi's on the way there. It's pretty cool, besides the cold.
If you want to push your car to the limits, come out to autox. Going to the mountains can be very expensive way to enjoy your car.....
It sure is, until your new wheels arive next week and are 100% more JDM bling than your old ones :wavey:
