Lets get a group and drive up there. Its fun in a group. I ride my bike in the summer and my car when its cold. I usually do the loop. HWY 60 to 180 to 129 to 19 and back on 60. Lets go guys ! Lets figure a day and time weekends i can only do it after 2pm and weekdays in the morning. WHO is in ?????????? :coolugh: :ddirty:
I'm in if the time is right! Sundays are good for me. I don't want to get in trouble so if you're planning on driving like a mad man I'm going to watch you drive away.
I dont plan on falling off the mountain. just a fun ride with a bunch of cool rides. Lets agree on a day.... sundays????????
Sundays work for me as well. As long as the road conditions are good, I'm in. I'm on stock tires and suspension, so I'll be lagging some.
haven't been to the mountains since i've moved to GA...i'd be up for it too. i'll prolly be in the back of the pack too just "cruising" and enjoying the scenery.
Yesterday would have been a good day. I was up there *not in subaru* and there was no one on the roads. Oh well
ditto bout speed records... Just go an enjoy the area, no need to tear up any roads. Save that for the track
I've already made plans actually to go up to the mountains myself with my girlfriend and cousin next sunday (the 28th). If you all decide that the 28th is good, I'll come with you, and if not, any sunday after that I'll still go
If I feel better next weekend, I'm up for it. This weekend I was inside trying to get over my slight cold.
I'm good for the 11th after the dynoday (@BG 2/10) i've got plans this weekend and going out of town with BG for driftfury the weekend of the 17th. Any one else good for that...? It sounds bad ass, I love driving twisties... and definitely just cruisin' nothing crazy.
unlikely I could but possible. What time are we looking at? Now with the new sways in I need to test it out better than I can around here.
Let me know what time. I go to school at North Georgia and have an apartment right off the square so I should be able to join if I don't head home for the weekend. I saw a group today with 4 evos, an STI, and some other cars.
Maybe we can do something around noon, maybe get lunch somewhere then head out for the cruise. Where's everyone coming from. I'm in marietta. We need a place to meet up...any suggestions?
So we've got: keeganxt (me) My Friend Nino (mr2) Strayen sm04subaruwrx sm04subaruwrx's Brother (350z) sm04subaruwrx's friend (STi) Demo24 (maybe) jkass85 BC2003UGA Devo's Evo
my brother might want to join me if yall don't mind a 350z in our presence. also a guy at my school has an sti so i am going to ask him if he wants to come. i'll probably be coming in from atlanta if i go home this weekend
The more the better, I love 350's. And off of 400 is cool with me, just name an exit, if that fits the route we're going to take (I'm not really familiar with it so...). But it'll give me a chance to take the backroads with my car up to cumming, I worked up there for 2 years near exit 12.
I'll join you guys if there's room for one more blue wrx. I've never been on a mountain run before. How fast do you guys drive up there?
I would assume that on this run it would be close to the speed limit. More of a cruise than a rally through the mountains.
yea more of a cruise. I want to try the sways though a little and see what the difference is. However, on stock springs and stock tires, I'm not going anywhere fast.
jkass85 is on the list. So is everyone cool with meeting up near 400 like maybe exit 12 or 14, both have some fast food joints for lunch, then we can roll out. If I see the route we're gonna take correctly we'll be up near Turner's corner towards the end of the loop we can get a late lunch at that cafe. There's also Vogel state park that's on the loop we're taking, if we just wanna chill out for a bit. Anyways, here's the route as I understand it from the first post (for anyone who has never gone up there) I've hiked up there for years. And please correct me if I'm wrong or have a better suggestion. sm04subaruwrx may have better directions since he attends school up there. 400/19 North till we hit S Chestatee St. near Dahlonega Take a left onto S Chestatee St. and head into Dahlonega Inside downtown Dahlonega take a right onto W Main St/E Main St when leaving downtown it turns into clark street. This road becomes many different things but is basically highway 60 and 19 continued. Continue north till 19 and 60 split apart (60 continues N while 19 takes a right heading east) This is the base of the lollipop loop. The loop continues north on 60 into Suches where we'll take a right on to Wolf Pen Gap Rd (rd 180) We'll continue on until it t-bones W Wolf Creek Rd,we'll take a right ...the continuation of Wolf Pen Gap Rd 180. (This road will take us half way around to the north end of Vogel State Park). The other half is after we take a right onto Hwy 129/19 heading south. Then we take a right at Turner's corner (where that little restaurant is) onto Hwy 19. This takes us back down to where we 60 and 19 split originally. Take a left and head back into Dahlonega and home again. Any other ideas, suggestions, road name corrections... are welcome. Once you get up there it's easy to get around, only 3 turns really (and a crap load of switch backs and high angle S's).
That sounds good. The only thing is the last time I tried to go to Turner's Corner Cafe it was closed for the winter so I am assuming it still is. I went by last Thursday when there was all the snow up here and it still had the closed for winter sign up.
Forgot about that, well maybe we can stop and chill at vogel state park for a bit then head back down.
Are we doing 1 run here clock-wise? Or are we also doing a reverse course also? Last time I went with a WRXATL member, we did it both directions. One time there was a bone stock mustang in the way, that was halerious seeing them do that 180 on Wolf's Pen.
There are amazing dirt roads up one of the moutains up there, but i don't know if that would be safe as they don't have barriers. it's about 4 different dirt roads that just go up a mountain all twisty. They all meet at the top and you can take any one back down. Crazy stuff but i can't remember where the road is, it's near an army base. (if my cousin comes he'll know)
Sounds you're referring to Camp Wahsega Rd. I've already done those roads, some in the STi and some on my dual sport. I wouldn't recommend it since it will knock out your alignment. Plus there are several rocky sections where you have to be real careful with wheel placement. It goes from Dahlonega out to the Army base. From there the Forest Service roads go all over, Cooper Gap Rd, FS-44, FS-71. I've gone from Amicalola Falls almost to the state line on some of those dirt roads. Lots of fun in a Forester, maybe a WRX, but *not* in an STi. Unless you stick to the road to the north (Coopers Gap Rd) between Camp Wahsega and FS-42. You could take FS42 east from there and not really hit anything too tough. We've done that in the minivan a few times which has better clearance than the STi. Try this route if you're feeling like an adventure.. Google Dirt road route
Brian do you have any other of the FS roads mapped out? I would be curious to see them b/c I have been venturing back there in the jeep a good bit. Be nice to know where things come out.
I would go, but since I already went on 02/04 and had to replace my windshield due to gravel on the road, I don't want to take any chances. Be careful the ones who are going.
Sorry about that, I'm bad with stickies, I just check new posts and never end up seeing them. So yeah that first map in the sticky is what I'd like to do...I really don't care where we go but want to stick with something.
