I am runing the carbotech panther plus pads. Yes, they are loud and squeak a lot when braking. However, I have noticed that mine squeak even when I'm not braking, just driving. This is not as loud as when I'm on the brakes, but it is definitely noticable. This always starts up after the brakes warm up. Anyone have this happen? Any suggestions?
Once they're warm, if you drag the brakes a little, does that quiet it down? Or does it continue, even after you've applied the brakes several times?
if I tap the brakes, it goes away for a few seconds, then it comes back. If I jerk my steering wheel, it also goes away for a few seconds. Sounds like its coming from the front wheels only.
As I said before, I do not have a similar sound on the Hawks *shrug* I havent found anything on iwsti yet regarding a similar thread.
+1 I'm running Hawks too. Pretty quiet except for when braking in reverse. Nothing like you describe though.
Do the hawk's squeak much at all? The panther plus pads are LOUD under braking and thats probably why they make some noise while driving. However, I would think the pads separate from the rotors when in motion.
Mine are noisy when they want to be, there's no condition ive found that is consistent Mine are also f'd from TGP though. I am prob going to get a set of HP+ fronts and just use the hps rears, i havent read about any issues with a setup like that.
yours are noisy even when you're off the brakes? i ran the hp+ and never had noise when i was off the brakes.
sounds like you borked your car. You can trade your broken car to me for my less-broken car and not experience these problems anymore. **Sorry there's no relevant help in this post**
could it be your shims are not set correctly? I have hawks pads and no noise were found but plenty of dust
Hey Milo, you know I run the carbotek xp's and I have the *exact* same symptoms. I ask SoG to check it out last time they worked on the car and they said it was fine. I'm still a bit worried the piston seals are dragging or something though. Let us (me) know if you find the cause.
I can't say I have that problem, even factory brakes drag a little you usally don't hear it because the pad material doesn't make as much noise.
My original stockers were making some noise at the end of their life even when I was off the brakes. After getting new (OEM) pads, the noise went away.
hmm... might have to check to see how much pad i have left... actually thats what i should have done before starting this thread
figured i'd try to re-grease all the parts (rear of the pads and shims)... that way i could also check to see how much pad i had left... alex and i took it apart last night... there was absolutely no grease there... i remember i had put a ton of it on there when i first installed it but i guess the track event in TX fried it all off... anyway, there was a ton of pad left and we re-greased it all... haven't had a chance to take it out for a test drive yet... hopefully this will mitigate, if not fix the problem... stay tuned
so i took it out for a drive and i think regreasing everything has solved the problem ... at least most of it... i only drove it once this morning for about 20 min and here's what i noticed: 1) the brakes took longer to warm up... might be because everything is in fresh... might be because the pads arent dragging anymore :dunno 2) once warmed up, they are MUCH quieter... they make no noise at all when i'm off the brake and driving down the road... and the noise when braking is significantly quieter 3) they seem to bite MUCH harder after they warm up... might just be my imagination... or might be because they arent constantly dragging anymore the only time i noticed a noise when i wasn't braking was when i was driving up the parking deck and making constant radius left turns while going up the ramps... surprisingly it didnt make any noise when i turned right... might have to add a little more grease to the passenger side front
disgusting bastard anyways, i'll post an update in a couple days when i found out that this in fact is permanent a solution
