Ok I am just wonderin what is better for the car .. My car is not tuned and some of my friends told me that the stock intake works alot better than aftermarket .. yeah I would appreciate if you guys know anything about this ..

and also.. when i leave my car on, and the rpm is going up and down up and down .. lyk.. my engine's about to shut off but it doesn't .. I heard its bc too much air is going in and i have a stock ECU. I have a K&N typhoon short ram intake with the perrin turbo inlet hose .. but I am thinking about puttin it back to stock ..

just tell me what you guys know ..

    thanks.

Short ram intake is generally a bad idea. If you MUST have an aftermarket intake, go with a cold air that has a 65mm inner diameter. A good one I'm aware of is the Injen cold air intake.

I have heard of the idle issues you describe. I believe that if you drop the short ram and replace it with the stock airbox, your problem should be solved. You could leave the inlet tube installed.

+2 for stocker, it's not sexy but it really does fit the bill way up into the hp numbers.

Stock...many aftermarket intakes cause problems with the MAF sensor and in return your car doesn't run as well.

Stock box with a drop in filter is the way to go. If you would like to go coldair though, as Milo said, check out the injen or the aps. The injen sits a little low for some people though.

APS is good also. If you do go with APS, make sure you get the 65mm.

Inlet tube should be fine. Your problems are most likely coming from your intake.

The oil on a K&N filter will come off the filter itself and stick to the MAF and cause the MAF to read incorrectly and in turn send the wrong signal to the computer and cause a rough or low idle. Id take the MAF off and see if the wire inside is gunked up. I think this might be your problem. Just an idea. How long have you had the filter on there, and have you ever cleaned/re-oiled it?

^^ yup. pretty much what we're saying. You DO NOT want to tackle removing & replacing the
    turbo inlet hose.

I liked my K&N Typhoon on my '06 STI. No problems with MAF or check engine lights. I took it off cause Im running COBB stage 1 AP. I miss my intake though... It pulled good 4,000rpm on up !

Intakes are fun noise makers, but show mimimal gains. IMO, one of the better setups (and cheapest) is to use the stock airbox and run a bit of ducting frmo the fog light surround to it.

I would unless...you want to save money for mods elsewhere and get a stock intake from someone on here cheap...I LOVE my injen...love the noise (as alex referred to) and also It cools quicker than stock...I actually got to see it in action with SS when I was tuned...it was pretty sweet!!!
