So i took my car to TopSpeed and after only a few minutes of looking and listening and driving, they determined that it is definitely the front differential that is broken. Which i'm not surprised. More than likely the towing company that towed my car from my wreck back in november didn't flatbed it. I'm waiting to hear back from Allstate as to whether or not they will write me the check for the $4200 bucks for a new tranny. if they do i will be doing some shopping for an STi tranny. If you know anyone with a complete '04 STi swap (tranny, knuckles, axles, hubs, rear diff. driveshaft etc) let me know. anyways, just keeping this updated....
if you do end up going with an sti tranny/hub swap try and find 05 or newer since they use a 5x114.3 bolt patern and have much stronger bearings.
I agree, try and get em to fork out cash. I saw a STI tranny for less that 2500K on ebay, and I highly recommend the RA gearset.
yeah, but insurance is paying for it either way. if they don't then i will go after the towing company. I am considering both PPG gears and an '04 STi complete swap. don't wanna go '05 or newer, even tho its stronger i don't need any more strength. And i don't wanna have to buy new wheels again, since i just got these less than a week ago.
Sue the towing company. Its probably your center diff thats blown not your front diff, especially if they towed it on just the rear wheels.
maybe the problem is solved. still waiting on a return phone call from allstate. i will give him a call first thing tomorrow morning and bug him. until i got that check in hand, nothing is solved.....
There is a guy on Nasioc who lives in NC selling his STi tranny for $2000. THat is the tranny itself. Screen name is 2phless I think.
cool. i have to set up another appointment at TopSpeed. Allstate wants them to tear it down to visually confirm that is the problem. So sometime next week I should have a definite answer...
