I didnt think we had one of these, locally at least, so I thought I would make one whilst I was debading my new 06 trunk. Food for Thought If you have a pre-2006 boot, any sort of badging can come off without any problems. If you have a 2006+ boot, all badging save for the large oval subaru emblem is removable. The Subaru emblem is connected via bolts through the metal. Its easy enough to remove, but I leave the filling of the holes up to your own creativity. Suggested Tools, etc Terrycloth, microfiber, whatever towel Dental floss or fishing line (any non metallic wire should work w/o scratching your paint) Hair dryer or heat gun (If you are using a heat gun, take it easy alright?) Goo gone or equivalent. Step One Prepare yourself a deliciously buttered blueberry bagel. Step Two Begin to apply heat to the badging / emblem you wish to remove. It takes a few minutes to warm up the sticky back there. Step Three It should come off easily enough after some time Step Four Eww, have fun with the goo gone. I had a lot of success simply rubbing the glue with my thumb. Step Five Time to clean up the area. I'd suggest a simple wash with your preferred car soap to clean up the trunk as a whole. Next, claybar the areas where the emblems where as well as any other area you feel needs attention. Hit the boot with some water and proceed to wax or polish. Any trace or shadow of the emblems or badging should be gone Before / After
I think I may have used some kerosene to get the adhesive off. Any solvent like that will harm the paint if you let it sit on there. I wanna see some pics on the car.
Looks good when is it going on your car? I will probably see you tomorrow as usual, maybe I will wave this time.
I intend to use 3M double sided tape if I put a rice badge on the wrx trunk. I'm open for any other suggestions though. Speaking of installing it, I did that today with Bobby's help and even wrote a how-to on it for anyone else interested in the process. Ok, I've really wanted to do this for awhile, but I've been afraid about paint fade. Until this past school year, my car has been garage kept. It's a black 03. I'm just worried that if I took them off, you'd still see them...
I dunno, Im fairly confident that if you take your time, clay bar, wash, polish etc you can basically clean it up to the point where it isnt all that visible. You could come over sometime and we can take a stab at it if you want
I might be down. As long as this isn't a business transaction for 10th st jdm My bank account has been a little on the low side as of recent. I would be willing to bring over a 12 pack of your choice though :bigthumb: Although I don't know. "Isn't all that visible" doesn't sound exactly promising...And I mean I have had the car for 4 years...maybe I'll just wait until I get a new paintjob (haha whenever that will be)
Nah, this is two GT students chillaxing. There's only way way to find out, and honestly, if its a problem we can always stick them back on
Dude I've got a buffer up here now that you can borrow if needed. I was worried about my car being that it's white but extensive claybaring and it came clean. Cleaner wax will also help remove any funk still on the car.
I have a black 02 and I removed the badges in 05 and there is nothing visible at all where they were. Mine was parked outside for a year prior to that, so I dont think your sun exposure will be more than mine was.
Any other how-tos you want? I should have these up by the weekend... Kartboy SS PDE Camber Plates 92x (Saabaru) Bumper Removal 92x (Saabaru) Headlight Removal / Insall
Just pull up 1 letter. If your paint is faded, you will know once the 1 letter is up, and at that point, just get some adhesive and put it back in place.
