Hey guys, I saw a video to install the Kartboy short throw shifter and bushings. It does not look like it involves a lot. I was wondering if you guys know how much it would cost to take it to a place like SOG and/or if the warranty will be voided if I install a non-SPT short throw. Please advise. Thank you.
GPJames and I installed the kartboy SS in his car last Friday. Other than some mild frustration, its a fairly straightforward process. The HSPN video makes it seem much easier than it actually is, however, in reality as I said, its extremely straightforward.
I believe the WRX one is easier than the STI. Basically you just need some wrenches(10mm I think and open ended are probably best, not a lot of room for socket wrenches), and a rubber mallet to wack it in. The bushings I haven't done however.
The warranty isnt one thing, in fact its a bunch of little tiny ones. Your brand new coilovers will not be labeled the cause of engine failure, etc.
Everything is fairly straight foreward, just depends on how much of a pain your cars wants to be... Oh... and don't lose the little pin that holds the reverse cable
Yeah, the install isn't that bad at all. You need either 2 12mm wrenches, or one 12mm wrench and a 12mm ratchet with an extender. If you are doing the rear bushings, that is the hardest part, because its an extremely tight fit above the driveline right there. You just need to play with how you insert it up into the mount area. I believe I used scoobymods.com for my tutorial. Don't get frustrated though... I just had to take my apart to remove the tranny. Don't take it somewhere, they will charge you too much for the 15 minute job.
That does not sound too bad.. Hmm.. I think I am going to get the part over the next few weeks and hopefuly get some volunteers to help..
Greg and I didnt really look at a tutorial, we just did it. He said he watched a video but gained nothing from it. I just showed up and we got to work.
how long did it take you guys? my car is still at the collision center after the accident - so i am planning its gift already.. it's scooby's first mod ever.. so i want to be careful and gentle..
Go to WallyWorld, pick up some jackstands, a cheap set of end wrenches, and a cheap stanley tool set.
seeingred, not sure where you're located, but if you're North 400 anywhere, I'll be more than glad to help out get this thing installed.
That is why this club rocks compared to the north america blah blah blah.. the members of this club get along well, they are helpful and they dont flame the newbies!
