*** UPDATE *** Ashley has a website online with many of our pictures and videos. Check it out: http://www.ashleysiegel.com/portfolio/edit6190/haiti.htm This is the first webite she's ever made, and she had to learn Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Fireworks while taking a class. Hey All, My wife, Ashley, has decided to go on a short term mission trip to Haiti. Our church (Cumberland Community Church) has been sending people there for a few years. Right now they are building a schoolhouse in Dolval, a very impoverished city. One of the members of our small-group at church, Brenda, first went to Haiti a few years ago. She was able to help bring Jesus to tons of people who had never heard of him. Brenda will be moving to Haiti later this year for a long-term mission. She has written a number of articles about what is going on down there. I'll try and post some of them here. They have the foundation of the schoolhouse that will eventually have 1200 students. At this point they can only fit 400 in it, so there are 800 kids that literally have nowhere to go to school. A big part of this trip will be helping with construction and planning of the school. You can see some pics of what's going on here: http://www.haiticheri.org/ If you would like to support Ashley and this mission, prayers are MUCH appreciated. If you feel led to give financial support, you can give directly to Haiticheri, give checks made out to Haiticheri to me, or paypal me the money, and I'll write a final check to Haiticheri. If you have any questions, please ask away either here, PM, e-mail or phone. She will be taking tons of pictures and I'll update this thread so y'all can see what's being done. Thank you for the support, Scott Siegel
So in Church this morning we were talking about the fact that our local car club was supporting Ashley's mission trip. Everybody thought it was really cool that a bunch of car people were doing that. We noted that there are over 1,000 members on here, and they need $100,000 to build the school. So, if every member of wrxatlanta gave $100, we could finish building an entire 1,200 student school They also told me that we can actually paypal Haiti Cheri directly by clicking the Donate button at the bottom of this page: http://www.haiticheri.org/donate.htm Please write in the note that it's for Ashley Siegel's mission trip. At least until we get her support raised, then if there is more available, they can CERTAINLY use it. Thank you all for prayers and support, Scott Siegel
Thank you everybody for the offers of support. Again, prayer support is HUGELY requested. If you do feel like giving financial support, can you PM me just so I can get an idea of how much we still need to raise. The way our Church does it is that the church covers 1/3, the missionary covers 1/3, and they are asked to raise 1/3... Thanks again, SS
I'm going TOO!!! I went to the mission trip meeting with Ashley and we watched a DVD about Haiti. It turns out it is THE most impoverished country in the western hemisphere, and the second most in the WORLD. The unemployment rate is 80%!!! In the village that we are going to there is no power, no running water, no nothing. The food is cooked on a fire. They ring the Church bells at 4:30 am to wake people. I really want to go and help, as well as seeing it for myself so I can better explain it here. So, I'm going with them. I need to raise more support for myself, and I thought once we raise that, if wrxatlanta is interested, we could help them build the school. The only way they build there is with concrete. The only way they get concrete is in BAGS. That's right, they buy bags of concrete and hand mix the powder with water (carried from the well) to make blocks. The bags of concrete cost them $7.00. I think it would be cool if we tried to get them 100 bags. So I need to raise a bit more to cover the 1/3 for my trip. Then I'll start a tally here for the bags of concrete. They are buying the plane tickets this week, so if you want to give, please let me know this week. As always, prayer support now, during the trip, and after is HUGELY requests and appreciated. Thanks again, Scott Siegel
Count me in for contributions towards the bags of concrete. Any chance we can get a fundraiser going? Car wash, car show, dyno day, etc.? (just thinking outloud)
we plan to raise money for this at the Quizno's meet... link in my signature... hope to see everyone there
Thank you all for the generous donations. We've got another $300 or so that we need to raise for this trip. It would be good to raise another $1300 for this trip to lighten the load on the Church. Anything beyond that goes to buying bags of concrete. If we can raise another $2,000 that covers everything for this trip, and 100 bags of concrete for us to use while we're down there. Brenda is moving down there in June. Her site is: www.brendaskids.org which points you here: http://www.haiticheri.org/brenda/ She's got some great stuff from her previous trips posted there. I spoke with Norman Garret (one of the 4 orginal designers of the Mazda Miata) this morning and he would like to help come up with better ways to help them build. We will be taking LOTS of pics while we're there to lay out future assistance. Thank you again for everything. Please continue to pray for support, health, changed lives, and safety, Scott Siegel
Thank you all so much for the donations. We're still a little shy of the target. For those that paypal Haiti Cheri, if you put your mailing address in the note (along with the fact that it's for the Siegel's mission trip) they will send you a tax-deductible receipt at the end of the year. Right now we are $955 from what we'd like to raise for the trip. Then it's on to the cement SS
If we get everything raised, I'll get a picture of the WRXAtlanta.com sticker on one of the foundation rocks SS

looks good, congrats to ashley for dipping her toe into the sordid world of interactive development without coming away jaded... emotionally speaking of course more importantly, the message and content the site conveys is clear and easy to access, which is key
