okay here's the deal i have a buddy who has a house in NC on a mountain right where the Nanthahala Outdoor Center (NOC) is located. i am trying to see if we can get a group together for a weekend at the end of may or sometime in june where we could go up there and do mountain runs all weekend long. the house is about an hour away from deal's gap and the drive over there is just as much fun as the gap. NOC is right along the app trail and there are a shit ton of things to do. i figured march is early enough that we can start thinking about it and staying at his house would cancel the cost of a hotel.

what i'm thinking is make a weekend for wrxatl people at my buddies house and jsut meet up with nasioc people whenever we would feel like it...let me know what you guys think

    Well dang...that'd be cool...

Is this an area in which the police will now begin patroling since it's this time or year again? This might inhibit the mountain "run"s at least.

well it's deal's gap so it's pretty popular as it is the cops are not going to be an issue. when i went it was hard to go over the speed limit bc there are so many turns. it's a crapshoot in my opinion whenever cops are concerned though

Nasioc is going up there Memorial day weekend.

Expect heavy traffic on the dragon. If you want clean runs get up very early or go at night. I drive the dragon for one pass each time I go and head to other roads for my fun.

I am going to be up there the end of March with a bunch of youth from church working at a camp in Robbinsville, NC. I have been up there the past 4 years and everytime I have to take the truck. :wtc: It is just there tempting me to go drive it... So close but yet so far.

For those that want to do some off roading, there are a ton of forrest service roads up there.

^^well hopefully we can get a bunch of people to go on a trip. this guy used to have wagon then an rs two door and now (long story short) he has an outback. very cool guy lives in charlotte and he is training for the 2008 olympics in kayaking. that's another thing if we go and he's there we could most likely get free rafting trips one day

Ive been to the NOC many times for kayaking and mountain biking. Its a great getaway place for the weekend, and especially fun for mountain runs, sounds like a plan!

Just remember that river is COLD. They require wet suits last I heard.

I hope to head to the Dragon area sometime this spring. :sx:

if this happens after i close on my house, my familie has a house just north of boone that could house a few dragon runners, we'll see what happens.

    ever have any daytrips?

evose. is thinking bout a day trip soon like on some Sunday.
would be nice if we could roll in a formation
instead of like 6~7 evos it be nice to have evos and subies in separate lanes and roll.

Same here I'll cruise the dragon and then hit some other roads to have a little fun.

it's not that cold. some of the guides even go without shirts on. the wet suit is an option. they highly reccomend it but they won't make you wear it
