Common problem from a transmission that is abused. I see them all the time.

Usually a gear is broken before or after it gets stuck in gear.

Buy the fork and drop the tranny yourself. Save yourself the 1200 charged from removing the tranny. I have a DIY on removing the tranny.

Sigh why do people call the WRX tranny a POS? Mine was still running strong! 70K miles on it and over 50 11 second passes. I tried to blow it up when I clocked the 11.5 on slicks....yes I ran 4 slicks on the stock tranny!!!!!!!!!! It refused to blow.

If Josh has driven the car nicely...it is very possible it was the first owner.

We've had these kinds of things happen.

16~19 year old gets a WRX from parents...abuses car, gets tickets, they sell it...and some poor sap gets it and THEN something breaks.

Yes nice, This is what makes me mad I have only had the car for like 8 months, And know I am looking at over $2300 hunderd dollers. Becuse some punk that had the car before me doged the car out, or did not know how to drive one. :dunno

I've dogged my car since day one. But I also know how to shift and treat the tranny right at the same time. Sucks man....it would be way cheaper to find an late 03/early 04 tranny (that still has the axle stubs) and swap them out. Then you would have the much better gears.

JDM wrx 4.11 trannies FTW!! Stronger than 02-03 trannies and pretty cheap considering it's a factory built part. All you'd need is a new rear diff ~$200 or so used. And you've got a nice setup for around $1200.

This is the internal shift fork. You have to be familiar with manual tranny repair to it successfully.
