Curious If there are any concerns about this Track Layout that is unfavorable to you, we would like to know what it is. Our goal is to put on an enjoyable event for everyone. This is a combination Track Competition / Car Show / Vendors Show / and much more. If you could send me a PM I may be able to address any issues you have with this Event. Boo Hiss does not tell us much and I want to avoid negative comments if I can. J Man
From what I was told we would be running on the banking some correct. Little mistakes on the banking in a high HP car can cause big wrecks. I won't be running at any banked tracks this year, its just now a good idea. Matt
Track Set Up. I appretiate your thoughts on that. I can not say at this point how the Track will be set up. From what other SCCA Drivers have said about past Events, the Corners were coned off so as not to promote High Banked Turns. Most of the Course will be on the Infield which comes out onto the Big Track for a Stretch & then back into the Infield. The Competition is based on Time so there will be a limited number of cars on the Course at a time. Usually 5 to 6. Each car will have a Transponder on it to measure your time. I recommend going to www.redlinetimeattack.com to get a better feel for how these Events are run. Thanks for your input. J Man
Thats pretty much how they run it at Rockingham, the transition from banked to flat is pretty scary. What kind of payouts are there going to be. Matt
Pay outs and Lay outs Good questions. There are no Pay outs for each Class. I will get these answers to you as soon as possible. J Man
LOL... No crap! But they sure do have the mountain bike market by the balls. mmmmmm  26" Holy Rollers!!!
Maxxis is not currently a sponsor of our series. The only tire sponsor we have at this time is Kumho. They are offering contingency awards to the competitors who finish in the top three of their division. We will also more than likely have Hankook onboard prior to this event, with them also awarding contingency prizes. As far as payouts are concerned. We have never issued cash payouts of any kind at our Time Attack events and I do not believe we will be issuing cash payouts for the Atlanta event. However, I will take that into consideration and we will discuss it during our next meeting. I can say, that if we do offer cash payouts, we may only do so for the Unlimited Division or simply for the fastest X number of finishers overall. Track Layout: we will soon be posting a diagram of the track layout we will be using for this event. It is the full 2.5 mile FIA approved road course, utilizing the "chicane" setup in Turn 3 of the Oval (to keep speeds down through that end of the Oval).
Thanks Nikalos Thanks Nikolas for the Clarification. Nikolas is the President of Redline Time Attack and he will be a great asset in answering any Questions. J Man

Fixed I fixed it so you should be able to view it on the post above or on the 1st post on this thread. J Man
I've run that layout before with sportbikes. There was a "no banking" rule and it worked out fine. Be warned though, run off room is non-existant for most of the corners. More of problem for bikes, but you'd be wise to know where going off == instant totalled car.
Just out of curiosity, what speeds were you hitting at the exit of Turn 2 of the Super Speedway? It looks like the corner entering the super speedway from the infield portion is a 2nd gear corner for most cars.... and that reaching 100mph using the banking before the exit onto the long back straight of the super speedway may be tough to achieve, save for higher powered cars. Does anyone know of a link to some in car footage of the road course configuration at Atlanta Motor Speedway?
Going into turn 2 was slick and tight so we started @ 60mph. Staying off the banking causes speeds to be traction limited so by the time we exited turn 2 it was still only 90mph. Better riders were going ~108 coming out. I think most cars will be going over 100 if the banking is used. Unless they're honda's.. Here's a track layout tip!! At the end of pit straight (after turn 2) there's a sharp transition off the straight into the corner. Forcing drivers to stay to the inside with cones completely avoids the nasty transition. I was coming from the outside and bottomed my suspension out on it, getting into a small tank slapper. Urgh, I stayed inside afterwards even though it was slower. I'll guarantee spin outs if it's still there and get's used.
Video Of Car On Atl Motor Speedway Road Course Tim Myers has in car Video from when he ran this Track Road Course so I will post it and send you a Copy. J Man
Atlanta Motor Speedway This is a Post from Tim Myers on Redline Auto Club's Site. Some of our guys had some concerns about the Big High Banking Turns at AMS and he gave us some insight that even the folks at the Speedway agreed on. ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY / REDLINE TIME ATTACK I am in tune with the Redline Time Attack and look forward to either driving or offering some coaching for the event. I cannot tell you guys how exciting it is to learn that the event is at Atlanta MotorSpeedway! I have heard some rumblings about people being worried about driving on the banking at AMS. There is nothing to be scared about on the banking. I have raced there on at least 10 occasions and I only lost 1 time in my RX-7 twin_turbo. Now keep in mind my RX-7 was nearly 500 horsepower and 2500 pounds fully caged with me sitting in it. It would run above 175mph lap after lap on the speedway portion of a lap. I never was worried about driving on the banking and never felt that I was going to hit a wall on the banking (EVER). It is partially a matter of physics and partially a matter of "feeling it" while driving there. The easiest way to describe this is to describe a test that I have done at Daytona International Speedway. At 60MPH in my race car on a pace lap if I let go of the steering wheel on the banking the car will "fall down" the banking. At 120MPH taking my hands off the steering wheel the car will barely move down at all and feels as if it is sitting in a groove. The bottom line is that at speed (at Daytona, Lowes or Atlanta) at speed the car feels great and almost NO STEERING INPUT is needed. It is awesome to say the least and is really surprising to people. You guys are not running 200mph Nascar cars or 210mph IRL cars, relax. Driving on the banking at AMS or at Daytona for that matter is the only time during a lap that you really get to relax. I don't know how to say that any differently. Physics thought: Watch Nascar and if a Nascar car spins or slides where does it go on a straightway most often? Now where does it go when on the banking? On the banking it "falls" down the track due to the banking. Physics thought 2: If you take a marble and drop it in a bucket and "swirl" the bucket in a circular motion, what happens to the marble? It will swirl around and around within the cylinder of the bucket. Now think for a moment if you continue to "swirl" the bucket the same way, would the marble EVER fly out toward the handle where you are holding the bucket? The point? Driving the banking at AMS is nothing to be worried about. The fact is that almost all of you guys are not going to be driving at speeds that are dangerous anyway on the banking and YOU ARE BY YOURSELF, NO OTHER CARS, NOBODY NEXT TO YOU, NOBODY FORCING/MOVING YOU on the track. Drive where you want to.... Drive hight on the banking, drive low on the banking. BUT DO NOT DRIVE ON THE FLAT/APRON PART AS THIS IS DANGEROUS!!!! The flat/apron part: It just crossed my mind that if people are worried about the banking they must be thinking that they would rather drive around the flat part or the apron. This is NOT GOOD THINKING. This will be hard to describe, however I will try. As you drive faster and you are trying to drive on the flat apron there is a "seam" where the flat apron meets the angle of the pavement of the banking. This SEAM is very disruptive to your car when you cross over it to head up onto the banking. The only time that I ever got my RX-7 in serious trouble at Daytona or AMS was trying to stay flat on the apron to pass a bunch of slower cars and I "pushed" the sidewall of my tire against this seam where the flat part meets the banking. I didn't intend to do this, but I was trying to go fast and going fast "pushes you out" (think about the marble in the bucket) Example of exactly how AMS last turn of the infield onto the speedway works: When you exit the last turn to enter Nascar turn 1 on the speedway most of you will be in 2nd (some 3rd) gear. When you come off this last turn your goal from "track right" entry is to hit the apex at track left. This apex is at the "corner" of where the infield piece of pavement and the "apron/flat part of where the banking of Nascar turn 1 starts". When you hit this apex you are on the flat part but heading "up the track" on the banking from even the little bit (2nd or lower part of 3rd gear not terribly fast) of speed you are carrying will guide but not force you up track a bit. There is about 70 feet of "seam" between the flat apron part and the banking that I just spoke about above as not being friendly that is "smoothed out". It is best described as a "gate" on the seam that I said is a no-no that is the perfect and intended place for you to "cross over" the seam and get up on the banking. When you get on the banking choose where you want to drive. For all the doubters I think if you ask this question out loud based on what you have read here you will figure out the correct answer and which answer is not the best one based on what you have read here. My comments and opinion on each are just below the list.. A) I want to be up high on the banking close but not too close to the wall. B) I want to be in the middle running between the painted white blocks on the speedway that I have never noticed before but seem to be there for a reason. C) I want to be down near the bottom of the banking because that wall is scary to me. Re: A) Not bad, but personal preference. I will say that everyone that drives at this event will at least 1 time drive up higher on the banking just because it is cool and you want to do it and it will happen after you are scared of it I will offer as you get faster you will realize that running up high makes you lift or breathe the throttle too much though on exit as turn 2 and will not be as fast and you will realize that being "further down" lets you go faster. B) Now there is an interesting thought. The white blocks are there for guys just like you and I so that we know the proper placement of our car that is the best placement and offers the best "setup" for exit and entry of the speedway turns. Imagine that. C) You can drive down low on the banking near the white line and that is fine, however as equal as driving on the apron and moving letting the sidewall of your tire hit that seam between the flat/apron and the banking could get ugly, likewise driving down low near the white line if you get too far "to the left or down" as that is very unsettling as well. Why don't we just use cones like some other car clubs have done at AMS? Fact: There are other car clubs and have even been some races at AMS where they have put out "cones" to keep people on the flat part/apron part of the track. I say to anyone asking this question, ask people that drove at those events: A) Was that "cool enough" and they will say no. B) Did that suck? And they will say yes and all they wanted to do all day was be able to drive on the banking and faster. Contrary to what you may believe, driving on the flat/apron IS NOT FAST. C) How many cars wrecked with the cone setup and wrecked shooting up the track? I know of one event where the cones were very restrictive and there were a ton of problems. Remember, you need to drive you car as comfortable as you can be and within your skill level. Nobody said you cannot go 70 on the banking when your car will go 120. Just go to a Speedtech or Richard Petty driving experience at AMS and you will see plenty of people (mostly women) driving 70 on the banking. What you will NEVER SEE is anyone driving on the apron/flat part of the track!!! Lastly, Ok Myers you say Road Atlanta not recommended for novice drivers, why are you so positive about all of us rookies going to AMS and driving on this banking stuff that I am still a bit shaky on? Because I have driven both tracks a ton. Road Atlanta: I have not been shy about being a bit against people on this car club "cowboying up" to a full blown Road Atlanta track event. I will say that after the re-paving I can come off that a little bit. But simply put Road Atlanta is a great track no doubt, BUT it is a scary track and has a couple of places that you can get in trouble. Just for the record as part of the repaving one of those bad places has been removed. AMS? Plenty of runoff in the infield and you cannot really hit anything (unlike Road Atlanta) and driving the banking kicks booty-licious. It is a very fun place to drive and I think everyone should do it if given a chance! I have taken people for rides at 170+ in my RX-7 there and even they never felt the car was not in perfect shape. On a scale from 1-100 (100 scaryiest) from a scary/dangerous/non-novice(street car on street tires) place to drive I would rate Road Atlanta before the paving between 80-90. I would rate AMS scary/banking/dangerous/non-novice (street car on street tires) as a 40 When I raced there 10 times in the RX-7 I only saw a car hit the wall 1 time and it was because the driver went to the right side of another car that didn't see the guy on the "wall side" of the front straight away. The car on the left moved to the right without knowing there was a car to his outside to "setup" for turn 1 and he clipped the guy on his right and sent him into the wall. This isn't possible at the Redline Time Attack event as you are riding solo trying to beat a clock, not someone else I am not affiliated with AMS or Redline Time Attack so I am speaking with nothing to gain. It would be a great opportunity missed IMO to participate in a good, safe "SOLO" driving timed event at a GREAT facility and great place to turn a lap!!
i noticed he said that the transition from the infield onto the speedway has been smoothened out... how smooth exactly is that? is it smooth enough to be considered a curve or is it still an edge? also, is this true for the transition from the speedway onto the infield section?
Good to here your on board. Tim will try to be at our next Tuner Nights Event and can answer some questions. J Man
Another Word From Tim Myers The smoothened out can be compared to this.. On the “non-smooth” parts of the transition if you leaned down on the ground and tried to roll a marble “up the bank” it would hit the transition line and bounce back toward you. Are the “smoothened” out transition where you go from the infield up onto the banking if you tried to roll a marble the same way it WOULD roll up the hill. So easiest comparison is that it is “curved”. The transition from the speedway down into the infield is just like a street outside, there is no real transition and it is very smooth to the infield. It is just a tad “down hill” from the front stretch to make that left and into the infield. Picture did not work. J MAN. I have enclosed a picture to make the point of what the transition is like from the infield up onto the banking within the “gate areas” I described and what it looks like everywhere else. You will see why I make the comment that running on the flat apron is NOT a good idea versus being on the banking when you see this picture as the more speed you carry will “push” you toward the banking transition where you don’t want to try to go up onto the banking as the sidewall of your tire will “push” against the downward angle of the pavement. This is why in my opinion you just need to drive up onto the banking where it is smooth and easy to transition… ~Tim & J Man
Team Readline Is Signing Up Team Redline is about to sign up for the Two Day Time attack Event. How many WRX folks are ready? J Man
Just wanted to drop on by and say Hi! We're gearing up for our next event, July 28th-29th at Gateway International Raceway in St Louis. We expect to begin our promotions for the Atlanta event in the next 2 weeks or so. Details of a pre-Time Attack promotional event for the Atlanta area are being worked out now. As an example, in St Louis, we are hosting an event at Grand Prix Speedways indoord karting facility. Discounted rates, car show, music and the top three drivers win a 1-Day entry into our Time Attack event. We'll need all of your help to spread the word down there and get as many people to show up as possible! Nikolas
How much track time can we expect on Sat? Are there many cars on the track at the same time? What's the schedule like on Sat?

We will have about 20 cars on the track at the same time. Spread out of the 2.5 mile length of the track, there will be TONS of open room and very little traffic.
Can't wait for the event, we will be there running our car. Who all is coming? I know MAtt and Scott are planning on attending, is anyone else coming?
I should be back in Atlanta around then. Unless I have a rediculous amount of catching up to do, I plan to attend. I won't be running the car though.
The regular spectator admission cost is $15. You can download a $5 coupon from our website for this event or get your hands on one of our fliers from one of the 50 local shops we mailed fliers to. If you want to participate in the car show, it will cost $30, but that also includes admission to the event for 2-days.
I am going stop by on my way to the SilverDollar on the 25th. SD doesn't open until 3:00 so I should be abble to hang out for a while.
I've been trying to get ahold of someone at BatlGround.. just keep getting the answering machine. I'd love to see BatlGround come out and support the event with a booth and/or some cars in the HPDE or Time Attack. I can work a special deal for ANY shop/club who wants to come out with a group of at least 5 cars for the HPDE and take some money off the cost of participation.

Redline Time Attack Cancelled I am sad to say that due to a lack of support and partisipation, Redline Time Attack has been cancelled. This also means that we will have to reschedule the Club Wars Car Show. Redline Time Attack does have a Refund Policy which is on their Web Site and it states the following. Redline Track Events Refunds Policy: Cash Refunds will only be provided for cancellations made more than 7 days prior to an event. If a cancellation is made for an event less than 7 days from an event you are registered for, we will only provide "credit" equaling the price of registration you paid, towards another Redline Track Event. If you choose to simply "not show" at an event you are registered for, and attempt to contact us after the completion of the event, no refund or credit will be given. Thats pretty weak fellas, I know a lot of people were planning to attend this and some of us changed our schedule just to make this event.
Time Attack Apparently they did not know you were coming because he posted a few post before that he could not get in touch with you. Nikalos wrote. Very few people had registered for this and in the end there were not enough people interested in it to carry on. I am a Victim as well and I did all I could to help this Event. J Man
