If I keep my stock trans I am putting in a act clutch. Is this a good clutch, And is any one here running one?
I was running one and if me Fawking tranny will stop blowing up due to asshat's that do not do their job correctly I would be running it now. I like the clutch way stiffer than stock (pedal) and I also have the 13.X lightened flywheel and the RA gears. I have the Act Street racing clutch and liked it alot.
i was always told that anything stronger than a stock clutch would put more pressure on the gears themselves. hence the reason i just but an exedy OEM replacement. if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. you get thi awesome clutch that can hold all your power, but where does the strain of all that power go now that the clutch can handle it? well, what's next in line? the gears of course. and if you have super strong gears then your axles and so on and so forth. oh and of course i am only referring to the weakling '02-'05 WRX trannies. STi's a are virtually indestructible compared to them.... just my .02
I've had the ACT street clutch for around 6 months now and I have no complaints. It is stiffer than stock and the point of engagement is pretty low, but I like it. To me it just feels more solid than so many clutches out there. You can really feel what you are doing. And I've had my car for over 4 years and 60,000 miles with absolutely no problems to the tranny.
yeah the street disc versions should be fine, i was talking about STG2/3/4/5 etc. clutches. i thought thats what you guys were talking about, my bad!
I am using the ACT Streetlite clutch right now. I love it, but it takes a little getting used to with the heavier pressure plate. I wrote a DIY about installing this clutch.
Gruppe-s has the Act clutch kit with a light weight flywheel for $650, Does this sound like a good deal?
act makes awesome clutches for all cars. i had it on my miata and im getting it for my evo. nothing but good reviews and customer service/warranty from the ACT manufacturer. call Kenny(sofla) or Tray(topspeed) for prices. i know tray currently has a install deal going on for evos. (well always do for me but...) and Kenny has great prices.
I just had a SPEC clutch installed and its great. Easy to launch the car, really quick shifts and not to uncomfortable when you start slow. (05 Sti)
Sounds like you just need to adjust the clutch pedal free play. The clutch disc will actuate sooner this way. I have the ACT Streetlite and its nice. Much better than the crappy stock one. Takes a little getting used to the stiffer pressure plate. It really pushes the clutch pedal back out. I stalled it several times when I first drove it, but now I am used to it.
Sorry, maybe my clutch terminology is kind of weak there. I was trying to say that the clutch actuates much more immediately than did the stock one.
