cause it sounds cool lol, doesnt a BOV make us do that?

Bov adds less air into the intake which messes with the A/F radio between shifts making you get a rich mixture between shifts. You can dyno tune the car car to get rid of the rich fuel between shifts. No cat and BOV would make some backfire but being healthy...maybe if you changed your oil sooner than norm. Worse thing is an engine running too much fuel. Mix fuel and oil together = lubrication problems.:hsnono:

trade it in for a 1980 buick skylark, it'll definitely get you those cool points you are looking for on the street :ddirty: .

That question is definitely a first for me. Backfire isn't always desirable, since the fuel is normally exploding on the hot side of your turbo. You can still get backfires with out removing all of the turbos. You can get it with just an uppipe, then it gets more frequent with the removal of more cats. Now if you want the Uncle Buck style backfire you have to go with the Buick.

This should definitely not be in the performance section though, as backfire means your running rich and not producing as much power as you should be.

I backfire sometimes which just makes me paranoid when I'm driving near cops. I haven't been able to figure out exactly how to make it happen or not... Thankfully they usually aren't too loud.

For me, it normally backfires when I am hard accelerating and then I lift. The excess fuel explodes in the pipes.

I am the complete opposite I think. My car backfires alot, but it seems to be more when I am driving normally and not trying to make it happen. If I shift slowly from 1st to 2nd, I usually get some good ones.

Nothing is cooler than shooting a 2 foot flame out your exhaust. Now if I could just do it on demand. I bet people would stop riding my ass if I could melt thier front bumper.

i have to give it alot of gas to get my car to backfire. even tho its not good the fireworks are always enjoyable...

When you let off the throttle suddenly after going WOT, it creates a momentary rich condition that with a hot exhaust or turbo causes the fuel to explode. It just happens more often when you're running a rich tune like the OTS.

AP stage2 is an engine management preprogramed map for those running a full turboback exhuast. You should check out Cobb's website.

Wanting your car to backfire is "bad" to begin with.

It isn't good for the car, but at the same point it isn't really bad either, as long as you have a catless uppipe. The Flame can start in the uppipe, and cause the stock cat to disintegrate into the turbo, which would be bad, and mean time for a new turbo. If you are catless, there is no worry about the cat breaking off into the turbo.

i believe shooting flames can only cause bad things to happen... in my car, i'd like all the combustion to take place in the combustion chamber...

wait, so i have a sti axle-back, and accessport running stage 1. i will be getting a helix dp from here and a gutted up from ebay if i cant find anything cheap, so with me running stage 2 set-up would i get backfire? i really dont want to run rich cuz i need EVERY drop of that gas haha, and i hate seeing burnt rear ends (not to mention that i wont pay $100+ for piece of metal to protect my bumper from being burnt)...

    its all in the tune.....

in other words once you get your STG 2 parts, don't JUST flash a STG 2 map. the only way to get the car to run the way YOU want it to (and not some guy at cobb, or vishnu, or ecutek, etc wants it) is to have a professional tuner do it.

and another thing EVERY CAR IS DIFFERENT. por ejempla, you and I could have the EXACT year model WRX, with the EXACT mods, UP/DP, TBE, EM, etc. same brands and everything; but I can gauruntee that if we flashed the same STG 2 map from that EM vendor, then our cars would react completely different. an ECUTEK flash may make my car run super smooth and ultimately perfect for the rest of its existence, whereas on your car it detonates like crazy and blows up in two weeks, or vice versa.

    just my .02

But there are times when I wouldn't mind a little combustion about 3 feet behind my bumper on certain tail gaiters. Think melted Lexus SUV bumpers. ;)

[edit] oops, I see someone already had the same idea. heh heh, like minds.

i swear one day i`m gonna get that bumper-melting thingy equipped to get all the tail-gaitors away from me... how about the one from fast and the furious hahahaha LMAO...but i think this one has it beat..
might be a repost, but it's still so damn ridiculous.

:eek4: watch how close that strap is to the flame.. the car would literally look like a rocket if the strap caught on fire and let loose hahahah.

You've got to rig up an extra spark plug and fuel line to get that beast going. And while it is nuts, hot rodders have been doing that for years.

just run a dump pipe or no exhaust at all and you'll heard all those wonderful backfires. That or just drive near the Atlanta police. As some one else said, it always happens when they are around :)

We tried to do that for our wreck, but it doesn't really work for fuel injected cars. The circuit you wire for a carbuerated engine cuts spark to the engine when you push the button, so it dumps an ass ton of fuel into the exhuast and stalls a bit. Then you have a power transistor ignite a spark plug in the exhaust...5 foot flame. I guess you could run a fuel line back there but that sounds dangerous.

Actually yeah, that sounds a little more accurate. :)

I just think it's funny how many parts of hot rodding really hasn't changed that much with imports. I think a lot of kids who base their knowledge of cars on FnF think that it's all new ideas, when in reality it's stuff that people used to do to their 1940 fords and now it's being done on imports. The flames out of the exhaust is one example (I'm talking spark plug style not just backfire), but I think the funniest is neon lights. The first time I remember seeing neons on a car was at the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona beach. I can't tell you how many classic cars had neons. Haha, alright, this really has no point, and it's not directed at anyone on here or anything, just talking...

It's actually afterfire....not backfire if you can see a flame in most scenarios.
