If I remember correctly, it is the combustion of excess fuel in the exhaust manifold which keeps the turbo spooled when you aren't pressing the throttle. Its pretty freaking cool, but from what I hear, it's far from practical for street use. I also hear it drastically reduces the life of the turbo.
yeah it's a pretty cool idea, but definitely something you wouldn't want on anything other than a race car.
its basically the same setup as any large diesel truck. they idle in boost. that way they have their power asap to pull all that weight.
I believe if the turbo is designed for anitlag then it's not so bad, and not as damaging. I'm sure it would reduce the life span noticeably though. Probably wouldn't be a good idea to have it on all the time on the street. Be hella loud for one, and you'd go through a good bit of fuel. Still would be fun to have at times. I did read about a guy in Aus that installed it on his street machine. He would turn it on occasionally on the street, but normally found it pointless.
It sounds like almost all of the rally cars that I have heard in the U.S. You guys need to come to Rally Tenn. Its coming up soon, so is rally W.V.
