Not 100% sure, but I believe there is Metal under the rear dash plastic. I don't believe there is an opening for a speaker there, but I may be wrong. If there is an opening, then to install speakers there would not be overly difficult. It would require cutting the plastic cover a little to allow a speaker to sit in there, but again, nothing overly difficult. If you are interested in doing it, I can definitely do this kind of install, assuming I don't have to cut thru metal to make a hole for a speaker.
all wrx's as far as i know have an area in the metal that are sufficient for speakers. i forget who it was i saw, but recently i saw someone with 6x9's installed. I just remembered i have a decent set of 6x9's that i might want to install....
anyone else with more info on this install. I think I am gonna try this when i get my car back. But how and where do i extend the speaker wire from?
okay, well, a head unit is only gonna have connections for two pairs. if you want three pairs, you're gonna need another amp. what do you have now? Stock?
get you a high-low line output converter and a 4 chanel amp and you can run 3 sets. 1 pair off your stock radio then 2 pair from the amp or there are several other combos you could run
yeah, but thats alot of wiring. You'd ideally want your best amp powering the speakers you hear the most, right? Wouldn't you just amp everything if you had the space?
My Suggestion would be to drop the rear door speakers. Unless you have people that ride in the back, you are not hearing the rear door speakers anyways. The imaging is completely off to be able to hear them in the front of the car. The rear deck will fire sound up into the rear window glass, and will then be redirected to the front of the car. It won't be perfect, but much better than the rear door speakers.
If you wanted to keep the rear door speakers and didn't want to run an amp, you can tap into the speaker wires in the harness before the doors, run you some wire to the rear deck, and just run the speakers in a series, instead of parallel so you don't change the ohm load. It would be a little less power to each speaker, but you'd have 6 vs 4. Your call... speakers in the rear deck are doable with some cutting.
Yeah tj the ones I saw installed had a spacer to raise the speakers up, and avoid those springs. And yeah I have zero dollars so this is gonna be on the back burner for a while.
