Need to know the best next step not over $1200. For more Power. The only thing done to car is turbo back exhaust 3" all the way. Whats the best bang for the $ . And is short ram better than cai?
Id say get a catless up-pipe and an Cobb Accessport. Then you can either run the stage 2 map or get a more refined Protune.
What he said, no doubt. And there is usually debate over intakes. I think CAI usually wins out just due to the heat soak of a short ram. But honestly, you don't really need either unless you have a seriously powerful car. The stock intake is quite sufficient and to get the aftermarket to work properly you'll probably need a protune, and even then it won't really do anything except make the intake louder.
Hmm. I wanna throw my ScanGuage on someone's car who has a short ram and see if the heat soak is any more or less. You can actually watch the air temp gauge go up 50 to 60 degrees after you turn the engine off. It goes right back down after you start it up though, how much depends on the ambient air temperature. If it's 40 outside it's a lot easier to get the intake-air-cooling but I'm sure it would be less effective if it's like 80 or something. (Haven't watched the change in temperature in warm weather yet and I have a CAI).
Lightened pulley's are compatible with Cobb. If you are adding the extra power, I would also suggest upgrading the mounts and or subframe lock kit. These are inexpensive bolt ons. I would go with the tranny mount and pitch stop first, then the rear subframe lock kit. This will insure that all that power goes down. Make sure you have supporting gauges, and you don't need any aftermarket intakes. Stay away from headers, biggest waste of money with little power gains.
coolrex had a SRI on his car and in the summer, the IAT wouldn't drop down enough after driving the car around for a while... with the CAI, i have seen my IAT come down close to ambient temperature in less than a minute
Thanks for all your input today i ordered the cobb ap. Does any one know about excceleration turbo back with cut out http://www.xcceleration.com/itemdetails.cfm83.htm is it good bad or what?
Im about to install my perrin lightweight crank pulley and Ill have a nice writeup and review when I am done. If you have a full TBE, you should definitely look into EM ($600-800) and a gutted UP (free).
EM = Engine Management Cobb AP is a type of EM. A TBE is a TBE, whats important is the type of downpipe it has (flat plate, semi flat, divorced, bellmouth).
Yep the SRI sucks! I was forced to use it with the Perrin FMIC. When I get the 2.5L swapped in the future, I will be reversing my manifold so that I can go to a CAI.
For $1200: I'd get an UP - $250 used, or gut yours for free Accessport-$450 This leaves you with $600. You can mod your stock injectors and find a deal on a VF22 and STI topmount. You could also do springs/struts. Springs/swaybars.
