For the time being, until my 2.5 is done, to help with the lag associated with the TD06 20G on a 2.0, I installed the nitrous kit I've had sitting in my closet since my last car. I jetted it low, approx 35hp, to help spool the turbo a bit sooner. This simple system consists of an arm/disarm toggle, saftey shut off valve, and a momentary switch built in to a T-handle shifter (which is very ergo comfortable). I have an inline gauge built in to the center console where the switch cover was located. The solenoid is mounted in the engine bay, and filtered fittings are mounted inline. I mounted the bottle on a piece of carpeted MDF and used L-brackets to secure it to the lower back seat mount. This way I can just reach behind the seat and open/close the bottle anytime. So far it works very well, and makes the 20G a lot more responsive in all gears. I'm hoping for 11s in the 1/4 if I drive well. Some pics for you guys: Now I know I won't really need this after the 2.5 is installed, but I had the kit lying around, so I said what the hell- I'll try it out and see how it does. I may jet it up to 50hp later if it works out well
Yeah, it seems to be doing well. I like having the control at my fingertips, but I stop spraying once in full boost. I'm gonna see how well I can do at the track...if I need to, I may install a window switch for more precise control.
You said it stops spraying at full boost. How much boost is that? And when does it start spraying? At WOT? Did you change the tune? Sorry about all the questions . Just curious.
No prob. I have full manual control, so I stop spraying at full boost, which is 21psi @ approx 4.5-5k. I start at approx 3.5-4k at WOT. I'm using a 100 octane map SS modified.
You should send youradumb1 a pm. He ran nitrous on his 2.0 and can answer any questions on what setup works best with the wrx.
Awesome install. I really want to add a small shot just for shits and giggles (and to keep from losing to Neons).
I'd like to try that, I know it would only help as boost builds, but I don't know my AFRs.. of course, the map Scott made runs rich anyway, and more so at redline. I might ask him about it..
Yeah, it's a dry kit. Being so small, running any extra fuel would be overkill with my current map. That sneaky pete kit comes with a 10 oz bottle, which would be good for about 2 seconds of juice.. I dunno why they even bother with that one
Its for the skreet racers. So they can tell everybody that they're not spraying but they've got a non-boosted Honda kicking everyone's ass. Why are dry kits bad on these cars?
Haha, back in my mustang days I always remember seeing the sneaky pete set-up in Summit and such catalogs. I think i'd rather just go big. But then again, I'm not a street racer trying to fool people into thinking that I'm all engine
fwiw... you should never run a dry kit on a boosted car. Dry kits are setup so they add fuel by adding pressure to the FPR. I remember hooking up a boost gauge back in the day to my mustang and it would show around 20psi of pressure going to the regulator when I was spraying. This works great for an NA car because it bumps up the fuel pressure. But doesn't work on a turbo car since it allready bumps the fuel pressure under boost. This makes the car go very lean since no extra fuel is added. Now if you ran an AEM on the car it would be a different story as you can use the nitrous map to add fuel with its activated at the injectors. But thats a whole different story. Just be careful, and if you don't have a wideband I would get one.
I think I'll be fine with such a small shot. I only use it for the 1/4 to spool the turbo, and only run 100+ octane with a custom map. I've run nitrous on several other vehicles, some boosted, some not. I'm just doing this for better times.
