So here are the updates on us so far Day 1 Wet skid pad...not so good for some reason we thought the wet skid pad didn't count as much so we agreed not to push it at all...we were wrong 44th Day 1 Oval Scott Finished 18th pretty good considering the only oval experince he had was in a kart which is way more than I have. We felt like this was a decent finish. Day 1 Autobahn I finished 14th overall which was way better than I thought I would finish. I had never seen the track other than walking it that morning. Day 2 Mid America It was raining when Scott ran, he forgot to lock the center diff and the car was and understeering pig. 49th Also left the silencer in the exhaust and the advance multiplier wasn't up in the ecu since we just reset it...yes we suck we know. Day 3 Miller Motorsports Park. I didn't even get a chance to walk the track before the first session, I managed to pull off an 8th place overall on the east course, and a 14th over all on the big track. I had two offs during the last session which is why I finished in 14th. Miller is a blast, Ill be back out to run it again. Overall we sit in 17th right now and in class we are in 3rd. I can't even tell you how much fun this event has been, I've got to see so much of our great country. People have been friendly and very welcoming everywhere we have been. Matt Ball
Ah so you guys are hanging in there. Keep it up. SS didn't sound too thrilled when he sent me the text update and I was worried something bad happened. I still think you guys are doing EXCELLENT considering this is your first One Lap event. If you decide to go next year you will be doing even better. On another hand sounds like Doug and Luke are kicking everyone's butt from what I have last read.
Awesome, thanks for the update. We're all pulling for you back here. Looking forward to more updates.
Oh snap! Doug and Luke blew their engine according to Nasioc! Last I read they are at Cobb's facility getting a new shortblock. The Rankins brothers/father blew their front rotor and it sent them spinning out. Details on Nasioc http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1248677&page=7
I'm not really getting text updates. I just randomly texted SS Sunday to see how they were doing but I don't want to too much because I know they are busy and such.
You read my post above? I just texted Scott Sunday and just got one reply. I didn't mean to give the impression that I was getting text updates. Sorry......
As of 3am this morning Doug and Luke were leaving the trackside facility at I think Miller Motorsports with a new shortblock in the car. It fired right up and was running fine. This is all off the Nasioc thread.
I want Scott to start sending me text updates. Matt has been sending them from day 1 :dirty: (This is my prediction for when Matt comes back home) Matt--><--Beth
Matt is the freaking MAN. The *MAN* We got a few secrets from the Lap Dogs and Matt went 5th OVERALL this morning. It was: 1) Brian Smith - Professional Tire tester for Michelin in a Hennessy Viper 2) Mark Davia - obviously great driver in great car, he's won the last three years in a row 3) Leh Keen - if you don't know him, he's a professional Porsche Driver in a DIALED Supra 4) Steve Stubbs - a C6 Z06 with the owners of pfadt suspension 5) MATT IN OUR STI 6) Ultima GTR 7) Steven Rankins Then this afternoon he did REALLY well again. The twin turbo Vette that has run 17 consecutive One Laps had blown a coupler this morning, and was back running this afternoon, so Matt finished SIXTH. We're now in a 3-way tie for 10th, 5 points out of 9th overall and 2nd in class. What an awesome ride. I'm up tomorrow most likely in the wet a Hallett. A lot of the corners look like other tracks I've driven and hopefully we'll get everything else set right and I can redeem myself from my previous wet performances SS
The Reactor part might not have like being solid mounted in the race car... It was AWESOME to have, but has a minor issue. HOWEVER the "unparalled customer service" O2 Secure Wireless guys have hooked us up with a PC card that does cellular broadband, which is how we are watching videos and posting right now SS
Congrats on the 5th overall finish guys...that is VERY impressive with all the great drivers and cars out there.
The Topspeed car most likely isn't gonna push it. They are OUT of the overall rankings so no point in pushing the car. I would suspect that they wanted to rest up and retune the car and make sure it doesn't blow up again.
Thanks for all the support. I can't describe the disapointment. While from the outside it may seem like we pushed the car beyond it's limits, it was actually a conservative tune. The problem has been a goofy electrical issue we can't hunt down. We think the battery that melted down and broke our ground lead which leaned the car out and burnt a piston actually caused more damage than that. If it melted that big ground, who knows what else it did to the electronics. We can't get our afrs to even out and didn't want to destroy a second motor. Big thanks to Christian at COBB Tuning for helping us out til 3am on the engine swap. When I woke up from a nap Trey Cobb, the owner, was there helping out as well and also stayed until 3am. Awesome. If you need subie parts, look them up. The place if full of computers and engineers that know their stuff. Thanks everyone! Luke and Doug _________________
Awesome people at Cobb. Scott and I went and toured their shop. Very very nice shop. I touched the carbon car....I have plans for next year. Matt
not so much! i am headed to florida the day after he gets home and then we are adopting a dog from one of his friends. i have wanted a dog since we moved into our house so hes on my good side. for now anyways...you know when the carbon for the car arrives at our front door.
update yo Scott and I are first in class and 9th overall. It was good day. Tommrow I pull out all the tricks to see if I can move us up a few spots. Matt
Keep up the good work guys. I can't wait to hear all about the trip during my back to back tuning days on Monday and Tuesday.
Yep I got the updates last night and was excited. 9th overall is damn good for a first time One Lapper.
Boxer4Racing has lost any chance of finishing first in mid-price sedan. However Matt and SS are tied for first with the black SRT4 Neon. THey are battling out. Comeon Matt and SS.....we're rooting for ya. Show everyone that the SRT4 is not the fastar!
The SRT 4 is not the faster but it was the more consistent, they are great guys, I time trial with them in Nasa and he is very fast. However I'm faster, next year we are pre running all the tracks so this won't be a problem. Matt Oh looks like we have atleast 9th locked up and we could place as high as 7th overall. We are battlng with the srt4 for first in class. Matt
i just talked to matt. they are on their way home from tire rack in ohio with a big ass 9th place overall trophy! he should be home sometime tomorrow afternoon, we should celebrate at the next meet/get together!
congrats guys, glad you finished so well although...I was kinda rooting for the neon also 'cause they are all Clemson guys Next year you should have class locked up
One day Clemson will let you guys win something. Awesome showing by everyone though. There was so much luck involved in just finishing the event. Good job!
