Ok, so whenever I shift from first to second gear there is the very slight sound of gears whining. It sounds VERY much like a muddled Blowoff Valve, which is why for the whole time I've owned this car I just thought it was the noise of the bypass valve. I just noticed a few days ago that it corresponds only to when I'm shifting from first to second. Third to second or fourth to second produces no noise. My question is, what does that sound like? I'm completely new to odd noises that manual trannies make. To make it worse I don't know for sure if it hasn't been making this noise the whole time I've had the car, because the times I did notice it I just thought it was the BPV. Does it sound like a synchro? Guess I need to call SoG and make an appointment.
I've just noticed a squeak when i shift from 1st to 2nd in my 06. Though I believe mine to be a squeaky mount or something. Are you running a down pipe or have the intake silencer removed that might make any turbo spool/whine/chatter more pronounced, BOV included? Does it make a noise when giving it a tad bit of accelerator and then letting off (therefore causing the motor to twist and then settle again) while in first or second...no shifting.
Second thought...with a tranny that new, gear noise is more pronounced anyways. The tranny really breaks in closer to 10k. And i believe the tranny has dual synchros on 1st to 2nd so that maybe it...or am I thinking of an sti tranny? corrections? You might wanna keep listening and see if you you hear it by going from 1st to neutal then to second. who knows it's late...
It's definately not anything other than the sound of shifting in to second gear when moving from first. Shifting into nuetral doesn't make the noise.
Yeah, I FINALLY get some significant time off next week so I'm taking it to either SoG or Classic depending on who can give me a loaner and promise to drop the tranny and check it out quickly....cause I'd like to go to the beach next weekend. Also, quicker I shift, the more pronounced the noise is. Though I'm not "Forcing" it in, just shifting quick, waiting for the gear to open, sliding it in, which on second is next to no time.
