Who's running Konis?

    Anybody locally have any good tips for installing Konis? I'm about to hack up my stock wagon struts and put these in.

    I dont know, ask Bell-vin, I believe he installed a set didnt he ?

    I believe so. Since I've got the struts off the car I'd like to take my time with the install.

    I bought mine along with a set of pre-cut shock bodies... so i know what they look like once cut, but I didn't do it myself. As far as I can tell it's straight forward and simple- just don't cut it too short. The bulge on the koni is designed to wedge into the cut shock. If it's cut too low, the bulge cant seat properly.

    Yeah, I bought a pipe cutter, it looks like a motorcycle or bicycle chain with a handle on it. After doing the first one, the rest were pretty simple. There is a write up on Subymods I think. I love the way the Koni's ride! On full soft, they are very livable daily drivers, on full stiff, they are very trackable. Its almost a can't beat set up for a daily driver that isn't going to see heavy track time. If you need some help, you're welcome to come out to my place. All in all though, one of my favorite mods...

    gotsol runs them. he's been trying to talk me into for a year now. i'm sure he did the install himself, also.

    I have install info if you want them. Nice post on Nasioc. But instead of cutting 40mm cut it 25 mm.

    We did the Koni's in my buddies wagon last weekend. Holy shit I'm impressed with them. Anyone need tips let me know.

    Yep, I still contend Koni's are the "bang for the buck" champion.

    when you cut into the oem strut body will it release air or oil or both ? Is that dangerous ?

    Neither just by cutting into the strut body. The oil in not pressurized in the body, at least, it didn't seem to be. I cut the tops off with a pipe cutter and there were no escaping gas sounds or any other dramatic effects. The fluid is much less viscous than I thought it would be as well.

    When you drill the hole in the bottom there is a slight hiss but no violent splurge. Turn the struct upside down and not much happens except a little drip drip. Start moving the struct in and out in a jack off motion and it'll blow it's load out the hole so point it away from you or anyone else. Not much fluid in there all in all though.

    Hahaha I worded the above deliberately.

    hmmm.......

    I traded my stock assemblies for the koni/stock sprinig assmeblies from a competitor and good friend, Wayne Walters. He was selling the car and I let him co-drive my car as part of the payment.

    Woops, forgot I did this first too. But the results were the same for me. Still nothing dramatic, no explosive decompression...
