If you want some crazy screenshots: http://www.panogames.com/games/gtr2.htm GTR 2 - FIA GTR 2 will make you cry. Continuing the trend of ultra realistic physics and gorgeous graphics, GTR 2 takes the racing sim formula and revs everything up a notch. When you experience the thrill of real-life race car control, you'll shed a tear. When a slippery road causes you to crash, sending pieces of your beautiful Porsche flying all over the road, you'll cry. Not because you've destroyed a magnificent car, but because it was so good looking you almost called your insurance company. If you aren't familiar with the GTR series, get ready to be impressed. GTR is a racing sim, a genre that aims to simulate the experience of racing in a video game. Instead of crazy power-ups and cars leaping over walls, your challenge is to master realistic racing controls and physics as you pilot super cars such as the Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini. Professional racers sit beside the programmers to ensure authenticity. The enormous amount of detail that goes into these games is mind boggling, and GTR 2 is the absolute cream of the crop. The Game Playing GTR 2 is a lot like sitting inside of a real race car. The dashboard is splayed out on your screen in impressive detail, complete with speed stats, mirrors, and even gas and brake pedals. The driver's seat view shifts as your player turns his head, creating a remarkably immersive experience. The bulk of the game is the GT series, featuring officially licensed circuits, vehicles and drivers. In all there are over 35 track layouts and 40 different car models, many of which have spec variations, bumping the tally to 140. As you race through tracks from around the world, you slowly become an expert at driving authentic FIA GT cars. Rather than giving computer-controlled opponents full knowledge of each track, the AI in GTR 2 starts them on equal ground. The first few laps you'll notice the other racers are just as careful about driving as you are. Later they gain confidence as they learn their way around the track. Their cars must also warm to optimum driving conditions just like your own. It evens out the challenge and adds yet another layer of realism to the game. Driving School An especially noteworthy gameplay feature in GTR 2 is the Driving School. Most racing sims (the original GTR included) have complex control schemes that turn all but the most fanatic fans away. Driving School curbs that with a beginner-friendly tutorial. The lessons range from acceleration to cornering tactics, braking, and how to overtake other cars. Normally these are basic tasks in an arcade racer, but sim racing is more intricate. Even driving pros can learn a thing or two. Each lesson was co-designed by racing professionals, so you're getting the real-deal with GTR 2. Completing the classes also unlocks new content in the game. A nice bonus for your hard day at school. Graphics GTR's developer SimBin really pulled out the stops to accomplish a new level of graphical realism for GTR 2. Everything inside the game is photo realistic, from the shine on windshields to the bumps in the pavement. The landscapes, tracks and cars are superbly detailed, right down to the driver stomping on the gas pedal. Lighting effects and shadows are also very well done, thanks in part to DirectX 9 support. Edging around a tight curve at sunset casts long shadows on the track. And during several day-long endurance races you'll see gradual shifts from sunrise to the inky night sky. If you weren't so busy racing it would be a grand time for a stroll. Weather A dramatic graphical touch that can significantly alter gameplay is the weather effects. One moment you'll be driving along happily enjoying the scenery, and the next clouds roll into the background. Minutes later it starts to rain, darkening the sky and impairing your vision. Rain makes the roads slippery and forces you to compensate with careful driving. In another amazing feat of realism, GTR 2 features tracks that gradually dry. Hitting wet pavement might send you skidding, but a drier patch of ground is a whole different story. You have to watch the track after the rain and adjust your tactics accordingly. Physics and Damage Although you'll spend most of your time carefully piloting your car, it's always fun to cut the wheel and see a crash or two. GTR 2 makes it even more entertaining with a detailed damage model. Pieces of your car go flying, dents and crumpled metal appear, and you might see a wheel or two bouncing on the pavement. But don't go smashing into every object you see. The damage model includes the effects of a wreck on your car and alters your suspension, pitch, drive train and aerodynamics to hamper your vehicle. Control varies depending on the damage, slowing your car and making it difficult to drive. Not only does this force you to enter the pit for repairs, it encourages you to train as a better driver in the first place. Handling GTR set the standard for realistic vehicle handling, and GTR 2 takes it an impossible step further. You feel like you're actually driving a car, from the engine revving to the vibrating dashboard. It's an absolute thrill pulling out and heading onto the raceway, something that you just have to experience to appreciate. The greatest improvement to the control is the new tire modeling. GTR 2 accurately replicates the contact values and slip angle of real tires, making driving in the game much more intuitive and even a little bit easier. Your car feels like it sticks to the pavement, and driving over different terrains immediately alters the feel. It's still easy to spin out, especially at high speeds, so don't think for a moment GTR 2 has been watered down. Conclusion GTR 2 is everything its predecessor was and a lot more. The graphics are stunning, the damage models are better, and the physics are more realistic. The inclusion of the Driving School smooths the learning curve, perfect for anyone ready to feel the heart-pounding sensation of controlling a real race car. Everything about GTR 2 is a breathtaking experience. It's by far the most stunningly realistic racing sim ever created.
Does it work with "joypad" type controllers or do you need to use the keyboard? Can't imagine a driving game on a keyboard....
dont you have to buy that steering wheel that turns 2-3 times in order for you to play this? i got one for the GT4 but the whell diameter is too small its hard to keep in controll of the car.
I have the Logitech DFP2 steering wheel for the PS2, I also had found USB drivers for the PC to use it. I will see if it works on the PC and if this game can actually see it. If so, then I'm set and if anyone needs those drivers, just send me a PM. I'm willing to buy this game if anyone else wants to do it and race online.
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=44139&page=126 here is the software that will install the DFP on your PC.
dude, I am driving with my mouse right now. I am borrowing the connector from Amol so I can just plug an xbox controller in. We definately need to get some online action going in there, the game is too much!
xbox controller works on PCs? Let me know which model and what adapter you had to use to make the Xbox connector into a USB. The DFP is detected by windows XP but it won't calibrate. I read some forums and some people had to physically make some modifications. I'm not willing to do that to a $150 steering wheel.
I found this on the web http://www.fury-tech.com/en/Guides/Xbox-Controller-PC-Conversion-Mod i have extra controller and USB stuff so I'm gonna try that and see if i can make myself a free xbox/PC conversion controller.
did you order the game online? download? I called frys and gamstop and they do not carry it or have anything in there inventory/search system. they said they have never heard of it.
I downloaded the Demo to try it out. But I'll most likely buy it. I just looked and it seems BestBuy online has it for cheap and in stock. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8031925&st=GTR2&type=product&id=1157067259342 In Store Pickup Available and is in stock at several stores. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcat17006&type=page&_requestid=27984
I downloaded it via torrent for "testing" purposes. In order to play online you need a legit serial so, I will be getting it sometime soon. Im sure you could pick up a copy on ebay.
I just went to Best Buy on Cobb and picked this game up for $20. That's dirt cheap for a good game. There was one more copy left.
Let me know how it is. I still would like to try it with a wheel/pedal setup but I read the expensive Logitech is too stiff feeling and doesn't turn fast enough. Like not having power steering. That's crap.
..and it works splendidly! You can adjust the steering sensitivity...infact everything you could possibly want to adjust is in fact adjustable. Just did a trial run in the wet on hard dry slicks...haha
I think I played this at Formula D last weekend in the PS truck. I also played the new gran turismo, which had cool graphics, but the driving sucked.
isn't the online gaming hosted on the game company's server? I haven't installed the game so i don't know all the online options it has. if it has an option for dedicated server, then definitely we need to. A college connection would work best.
Yeah, FTS. BTW, if you ever need a Microsoft joystick I have one floating around somewhere... throttle control, twist, etc. Think it still works.
YEA!!! it's ALIVE!!! took apart my DFP steering wheel and tweaked it some and now it works!! it's kinda hard driving with it. controllers are so much easier.
I'm getting used to the steering wheel and accelerator and braking levels. It's a lot more fun being able to control how much I can control through a turn using the gas instead of braking. Alex, lets hook up sometime tonight if you're up for it. I figured out the IP connection feature. I'll host. Also, do a CTRL F to see what frame rate you get. I get around 45-60fps with max resolution at 16bit and 2x AA on. Most of the features are on high also. It's amazing my old gaming PC can do that still.
So I think Ive figured it out... Here's what I am using, and its definately getting closer to the right direction. On the XBCD setup utility, under the Windows tab I adjusted the following: X & Y scale reduced from 100 to 50. I returned the in-game sensitivity settings to their defaults and it feels a TON better. I will play with my throttle and brake controls tonight prob. IIRC, I pushed the steering sensitivity up to like 75%. The car responded so nicely b/c I could actually turn it w/o spazzing it out
Alex, have you been doing the Driving Schools to open up different champion ships? I have completed the Basics now and am starting on the Circuit Coaching. Already opened up several championships. Also have 32 gold cogs out of 48. Some I just decided to come back to.
I actually only completed the acceleration training, when I was using the mouse to drive the car. All 7 golds, I started the braking, but have been learning more and having more fun with the open practice Thus far, I am beating the guys I am practicing with on Dubia and Monza! Let's play
Man there is a way to open up a lot of tracks, I want to find out how to open up Road Atlanta. It's not in the first choices. That would be bad ass to open up.
Im not sure it exists...however, I am downloading some new tracks, cars, updates for the game. I'll make one large compilation for those interested in the game so you do not have to waste time searching. I havent found a RA map, but I have found Laguna Seca, Road America, etc
Took some screen shots w/ the new cars (e90 club challenge & jagermiester rsr) on the new tracks (laguna & road america)...Enjoy Navigating the Corkscrew at Laguna in the WTCC E90 BMW Interior snap of above Seem to be running faster times than this guy, whoops! Oh noes! A little love tap never hurt anyone Success! Better snap of the Jager GT3 RSR If you dont own it, go and get it! GTR2.
Looks very promising. Now to see if my pc will handle it. (not quite sure it'll meet the required specs)
upgrade your PC and make sure you have a decent size screen. I'm playing on a 19" samsung but if I had a nice table to put the steering wheel on, I'd hook up the PC to my 37" LCD tv.
yea post up some links to the goodies you downloaded. also lets try and make a night where we can all join in and do some racing!
mimimum I think is 1.8 gig processor 256K memory 64 bit video card my processor is only a 1.8 but I overclocked it to 2.2 and I have 1.2 gig of ram. my video card is a radeon 9600 128 bit video card (yea it sucks I know) and the game runs fine.
I am even further behind than u kris.. My main pc is a p3 500. LOL I need to upgrade my pc I think or try it on my laptop even thou the graphics card sucks there to.
