Oh yes I will be there. Hopefully it won't be as hot as last year, but I doubt it. By far the best event of the year. My goal for this year will be to qualify in the top half of the field, I missed it last year by like 4 spots. When will they open registration? Interesting that they have practice now on Friday, last year was just a walk through. I wonder how that will work.

Looks entertaining. I might watch on Sunday. I'll have to mark this in my calender.

    I'm there!

    From http://www.soloatlanta.com/DoubleX/dxc_registration.htm:

"Registration will open for up to 100 entrants at 12:00PM on Monday, June 4th. An additional 100 spots will open on Tuesday, June 5th at 7:00PM. This is an attempt to not exclude people who either can, or cannot access the internet during normal business hours."

This event is looking less local autox'er friendly as time goes on. National event prices are pretty high (85), when last year it was only 60. We have to work this year, plus we have to buy crappy sponsorship decals... wtf. If I am going to pay $90ish, we need to be guaranteed 12 runs since our rate is $30/4 runs. Any other opinions? I know the event is fun, but after hotel, food, and decals... I may opt for coilovers instead of one event.

THe only decals you have to buy are the black Solo ones and the SCCA (white). Two of the black Solo stickers have to go on each side of your door, the white SCCA one has to go on the front bumper. All other stickers are supplied for ie Tire Rack banner, subaru, kumho, honda, hoosier, mazda. Seeing how Subaru of America is offering $350 for 1st in class for qualifing and an additional $500 if you win the challenge (ladies and open) it's worth the $5 in scca stickers you have to buy. Also you "technically" need to have a Solo rule book as well. This just the way national events work. I really doubt there will be 12 runs; I would ask heyward or look in the supplementals for the number of runs. I really don't understand your "rate"; national events aren't about seat time, they are about getting it done in x amount of runs.

I agree with you that it's going to be less of a local/regional event; however the national backing will give the event contingency money which really makes it more worth my while to kill a whole set of tires. Before the Doublex became a prosolo I wasn't even going to participate because I knew it would end up costing me a whole set of tires for a "local/regional" event. Now I'm really pumped because it's an national prosolo event; I can qualify for the prosolo finale by running the doublex as well. Also with the impending doom of prosolo, the doublex can provide a replacement format for smaller lots that can't hold a duel course prosolo. So to some up my point there are pros and cons, however it seems nor worse a deal then attending any national type event (actually it's better!).

What's the decal situation going to be? I'm worried about wasting too much time putting them on Sat. morning, since I won't be there on Friday. Maybe someone who lives closer to Gainesville can grab a set for me so I can get them on friday night.

    Eric,
You will need the black solo stickers, I believe they are a $ a piece. You can buy these off of the scca webpage or they will be available at tech. You will also want kumho, subaru and hawk stickers if you plan on signing up for contingency. Also I believe you'll need the generic tire rack windshield banner (it's free). All these stickers will be available at the tech station.

So... if you were able to get 1st in a Subaru on both days running Kumho tires in open class, you would get $1000 on Saturday, and $1800 on Sunday... $2800 not that I am even close to a good enough driver to do that ;)

It depends on the mods that you have to your STi. If you are running stock turbo, and stock boost levels, and street tires, you can run in STU. If your boost is increased, you need to run in BSP.

FYI this isn't the best event for novices or people generally new to autox. You must be a member of SCCA! Also feel free to come out to our local events anytime, however this is a national prosolo event intended for autoxers that have atleast a five or so events under their belt and want to experience a different autox format as well as competition at the national level. I don't want to scare anybody off but please keep in mind that most staff will be dedicated to running the event in a timely fashion; there will be no novice assistance like we have at local events. Also there will be no ride alongs allowed all weekend with the exception of the practice session on friday.

Yeah, it sucks to miss the event, but I really felt like this was something I couldn't pass up. After that I'm planning on visiting a buddy of mine in San Diego.

My work/vacation planning hasn't really lined up with the auto-x schedule this year. After the DoubleX, I'll miss the night event as I'll be in Mexico. I'll probably miss the Super Regional for a family event/job assignment out of town.

I should be back for Pts. 7 if you're still looking for someone to whoop up on in AS.

Good luck at the DoubleX. Bring home some cash!

For anyone who missed the Double Cross Challenge, shame on you! ;) A nice Subaru turnout. I had a chance to watch for a few hours on Sunday and hang with Brian and Meredith. It was a great time, and I will be participating next year for sure!

Some pictures from Saturday at http://www.gofast42.smugmug.com/gallery/3083421.

So, who took home the bacon?!?!

  41. Meredith

    Meredith Banned

The one ... the only... Robert Carpenter took home the win in the open super challenge. Jay took my car to the Super challenge but lost in the first round to Mike Jr Johnson (who took third place). Rankins was double eliminated by Jay in my car but got thrown back into the super challenge as part of the "lucky" dog special. I didn't have the best event; red light against Donna Frank and had a huge lead on her anyways; beat out a local corvette, then have a really close match with a friend in a GS Mini. I pushed hard the last two turns and it cost me the win. Oh well there is always next year.

Brian almost made it to the super challenge but hit a cone on the last bracket. Karen Kraus won the ladies in a DS wrx.

It was a lot of fun. The competition level was much higher than last year, because of it being on the national tour. It was funny watching Rankin's face after Jay beat him twice. Rock on Jay! My co-driver and I won in ESP, but overall it was really hard to compete. My car is nowhere near the Pax in modifications. Hopefully we will still get some Subaru bucks for winning ESP.

Jay just beat him once, and the second loss for him was due to a red light against another driver.

I could hear him cursing on course after each occasion. It must have been a lot of pressure due to how well he did last year.

The contingency payout goes to the fastest Subaru in each category (i.e. all of street prepared), not each specific class. You should still be good to go for the payout though as long as you applied (otherwise I can take that cash off your hands!).

That event was an absolute blast and way more fun (and confusing) than the standard solo2 format. I do wish raw times were at least recorded on Sunday.

Too bad us street prepared folks got screwed at the tree because of Junior's insane driving ability. I was not happy about watching my competitor round the first corner while I still had my hand on the e-brake.

Money list is out. Russ and I won 900 in cash and prizes. This is my first time winning anything besides a plastic trophy for racing. Needless to say I am pretty excited. Thanks for the good words.
