First of all, Short Ram Intake sucks. Even with the FMIC, it just sucks. :thumbsdow My IAT just jumps upto 150-160F during an avg red light stop. I'm gonna do turbo wrap and charge pipe wrap as to fight over heat soaking issue. <back to the main subject> I'm thinking about using Torco Unleaded Accelerator as an octane booster. Anyone has experience with them?? Any local shop selling these?
Doesnt work. Marketing gimmick. You need to find a CAI that sucks air from the upper part of the fenderwell, or use the stock intake system...which would be 'impossible' due to your FMIC. The APS CAI is what I recommend....eventho I *HATE* APS stuff.
I believe APS cai uses the same hole as the cold pipe of my fmic (turboxs). Most of CAI on the markets uses this type method of piping. However, I saw many good results with torco users. I'm gonna order a case, and let the Master SS do his magic. I'm planning to add 1oz / 1 gal which should bring 96.4 oct from 93oct pump gas. That should be enough to break 300whp. lol~
I bought a case of torco and ran it for about 2 months. It works better than any off the shelf octane boosters and toulene. It does contain a lot of mmt so your exhaust tip will turn reddish and your plugs will too. It is no where near as effective as meth in perfomance or cost but it can certainly help out a bad tank of gas.
Wait a second, let me find the page on octane boosters.... OK, I am searching. I thought I had It bookmarked, but there is a page with in-depth info on octane boosters. I thought I found it through nasioc. I do remember that the author's main point was that he liked toluene best, highest octane and most energy per unit volume. Someone please find this page so I don't look like an idiot! This is interesting but not exactly what I wanted http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating This seems to have some good info on toluene vs torco: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420798&highlight=octane+boost+toluene
Why? With the exception of a goofy DP design everything I've seen from APS has been top notch. Granted it all costs an arm and a leg . . . I've heard good things about toulene although it is harsh and could prematurely degrade rubber fuel fittings.
OK. I just ordered 6 cases of Torco. I just hate to be easy on gas just it's summer!! Stay tuned for the follow up review.
