I notice a lot of folks running a step colder on Denso plugs. I'm only ecutek, and tbe...for now. helps prevent detonation from what i've heard too. thanks in advance...shane.
Don't buy into the Ir or Pt plugs for sports cars. You want to change your plugs more often than not, and the purpose of the expensive plugs are to last longer. The optimal spark is still from a Cu plug, which is a lot cheapier ($2.00/plug), but they don't last as long. I personally like changing my plugs every year, it gives you insight into what your engine is doing. Meaning you can tell if you are running rich or lean, and a few other things. I always use the NGK's.
thanks clemsonscooby. yeah i've heard there is a way you can tell if you're getting detonation...something like the white part looking a certain color. part # NGK's, and gap size? i've got 18k miles on the car, but it's an 05' so I may pick up a set of NGK's. i ran those in my SRT-4 before, and it ran a lot smoother with em'.
white = lean black = rich brown = you are there copper is best but wears faster than IR and if you like to change them yearly and dont care if it degrades performance a tad with extended duration then CU is for you. I favor IR and plan to run it 35k miles
I would just search at the website of a local autoparts store, and they should have a listing of possible plugs for your car. The gap doesn't matter all that much unless you are upgraded a lot or when you pull them you can see that you are running rich or lean. Changing the gap will help with the a/f a little.
IR is not for meth injected guys like me. I've found I may may more power (minimal) on the IR plugs but the meth corrodes the mess out of them fast and I have to change them out more often than the CU plugs. Copper is for me. Every 10-15K miles the Subie gets new CU plugs. It's cheap insurance and plugs are so easy to change since I'm FMIC.
