Coilover suggestion!

    Hi guys,

    If you have $2000 budget, which coilover will be your NO.1 choice? Just need some recommendation.

    depends what your plan is with the car...

    id go with Megans track series if youre just a weekend racer. and pocket the 1200 left over for power upgrades.

    but if you are hardcore?... well youll be spending more than $2000 for a set to get the best.

    arnt you a vendor... err parts seller? like bmp import?

    Ive driven on JICs and sold them off. Ive driven on teins but never pushed them as I had done with the JICs. Never driven on Meagens. Ive ridden on the RCE re-valved & re-springed KW3s and was quite pleased with them. If I was to upgrade right now, I would go with those.

    yeah kw variants make awesome coil package.

    well i dont know about sti's but on evo's megans do well in people i know's book.

    ive yet to see one person who doesnt like them. and very cheap too.

    Thank you for your reply Mr. bomjoon. I just in to Subaru world for a very short time. From now on I will need to do more research about WRX STI. Hope I can start my STI project immediatly and join all the WRX event!

    I've been more than happy with my Tein Flex, though if I had to do it over, it would've been the KW3's.

    The Megan non-track coil overs. $850+shipping on ebay.

    The once preggers wife preferred those over stock stuff....and still does.

    If its youre daily driver the KW V3s are awesome, they ride better than stock and they are really fast at the track. If its mostly a weekend car slash track car then the RCE T2s are some serious coilovers.

    I've had both and would highly recommend both of them.

    Most of the Japanese coilovers are not as good as say Ohlins and other brands. With the Megans, Tein, JIC, and Ksport, you really pay for what you get. In most cases the dampening is not good enough to prevent your car from bouncing down the road unless you are getting a strut that is close to your budget.

    Granted, even though they are cheapier coilovers and are bouncy, I will deal with it because my budget for coilovers is not 2k, closer to sub-1k.

    With the Megans....I've noticed that if you actually play with the tire pressure AND damping....the results are better than stock ride.

    Different tires (sidewall stiffness) play a HUGE factor in ride quality as well. The Contis (VERY soft) I had to run 55 psi to keep from bouncing around on the Megans, no matter where they were set at. With RE070's, 45 PSI and 1/2 way on the Megans and its perfect for the street, and I still have lots of room to play before it gets bouncy again. My Megans are also 50k miles/2 years old...all street and autox use.

    My recomendations are mostly Tein SS-P's for a better than stock ride and WAY better than stock handling for the average person - even the occassional road-course enjoyment.

    Flex's if you are absolutely limited to $1800 or so dollars and are willing to give up some of the SS-P comfort for better track handling.

    If you can spring the $1999 plus front plates plus rear top hats for the RCE T2's you will not be disappointed. Nearly equal ride to the SS-P's and WAY better track handling (at most tracks) than anything else sub-$3500.

    As far as bouncing goes, the JIC FL-A2 are great. No bounce, they are a bit harsh with the spring rate however. Turn up to full hard and hit the track they are AMAZING!

    SS those RCE coil overs, are they independantly hight adjustable i.e. can you corner balance them and not loose travel?

    I've heard quite the opposite about the JIC (jiggle in your car). Both Alex and mmount from ClubWRX complained about the poor dampening and the harshness of the ride. The only remedy was to have them revalved.
