I have an 04 wrx 2.0( automatic), this is the first car I have ever owned, I had two trucks before. I must say I love my wrx. But heres my problem I want power AND a decent spool up. Can I get a quicker spool up with a rotated mount turbo? And how much quicker could I expect it to spool up, that is if it will in fact help? Thanks for any help. Chris
Welcome to the forums! I think the stock turbo is the fastest spooling turbo you can get. Anything bigger, even slightly bigger, will increase lag. I don't know too many people who would put a rotated turbo on a 2.0 engine. That would give you huge lag. Why don't you just go for stage 2 for now (engine management & turboback exhaust) and then decide if that's still not enough power.
yeah lag sucks I noticed a quicker spool with the turbo back exh. there is just soooooo many mods you can do it will give you a head ache decieding what to do next welcome
A catless uppipe and a turboback will do wonders for the lag. If you're not happy with the spool up after those two things and engine management, well my friend, you just don't like turbos
get stg2 as they said and if you got an extra 300 bucks.. get protuned itll do WONDERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS for lag.. virtually no lag.. i see usable boost at 2500
glad to have u aboard ........i've got an 04 auto too:keke: cobb stg 2 up/dp full turbo back....it'll be a night & day difference for u & definitly get tuned:hsnono:
you don't want a rotated setup for quicker spool. you want a turbo-back exhast (2.5 - 3" is fine) and an up-pipe. then get it tuned. stay away from blow off valves (atmospheric) and cold air intakes for now. oh, and welcome to the boards
I think I might have run into you at Lethal. if not oh well, but these guys are right, Up Pipe, Down Pipe and engine management to start.
The automatics generally spool turbos 500-700rpm slower than 5spd equivalents. Like everyone else said, replace the exhaust and yank the silencer for quicker spool. If you're really hardcore get a higher revving torque converter as that will allow you to get into the higher revs quicker.
Yup. Uppipe, turboback, engine management, and a protune! (Don't forget some springs and sways for a little fun in the mountains)
Oh ok I appreciate all the help yall. Im def. gunna upgrade the turbo, right now i just have axleback pro drive exhaust and prodrive down pipe. thx
WJM is selling a couple turbos in the FS section if you really wanted to upgrade. Otherwise the standard path to greatness is UP / DP / Catback + EM
Pretty much like what everyone else is saying. stay away from a rotated setup. a turbo back, up pipe and a tune will do wonders. if you've got some $$ to spare, install an APS (or Agency Power with the Perrin afta-maf tube) 2.5" inlet pipe, use the stock airbox/snokus and air duct. Use an STi restrictor pill in the boost line, and get an STi TMIC. THEN tune. Wham-o...19PSI by 3000 rpm.
What is the sti restrictor pill, and where could I get the rest of the piping for my exhaust( its currently an axle back prodrive), and what turbo would yall recomend I want 350+/- hsp without the meth injection, and yea socrates42 that was me from lethat injection, thanks yall for all the help/tips
its a peice in the boost control lines that regulates the airflow to control how fast the turbo spools. 350ish you'd want an 18G.
