Hay guys. Stock turbo 04 wrx here... I've noticed in the last couple of days while trying to accelerate in 3 and in D(4th) between the revs of about 3600~5500... ...my boost pressure needle is dancing around alot, from 0 to .7bar while on the throttle. I can't really actually feel a major power drop or difference. what should I do?
My boost pressure never bounces when I am on the accelerator hard, only when I am partially on throttle. You could have some sort of wastegate problems. Thats why the needle bounces at low throttle.
its an oem, so... mechanical? i'm ignorant... the reason i'm posting is that this is new behavior, I never noticed it do this.
okay, is there a methodology to this? I mean the only cable I can actually see in the cabin in the one in the accordion hose. where else would i look?
The hose should attach to the front of your intake manifold. There should be a t-fitting that should match the hose that runs into your car.
check yo air filter!!! I hadn't cleaned mine for over a year, and once I did, it pulled harder up top!
yeah, got a K&N drop in. but I'm not noticing any actual power problems. i'm hoping its just the gauge...
Something is wrong okay, i did some spirited driving on the way home tonight to try and recreate the problem and its surging a dropping boost all over the place. When I stomp on it, the boost surges past up to about 1.25bar, and then drops to about .3bar and takes forever to come back, the whole time the car is dogging. help me, my car is siiiiiick
Did you just fill up on gas? You could have gotten an extremely shitty tank. Could have mucked your advanced multiplier some... You could reset the ECU and see if it comes back (unplug the negative terminal, pump the brake 5-7 times and then reconnect the terminal.
okay, i've thought about this more. doubt its fuel because other symptoms would crop up in the performance. and I don't think it is a problem with the turbo itself. It will hold pressure if i'm not laying into the throttle just fine past .5bar, no dancing needle or surging then. Only when I'm hot on the throttle. I'm leaning back toward what clemson said, some sort of wastegate problem... i dunno how else to diagnose it, tho. What should i do to check things?
a vacuum leak will do that. look at the hoses around as JT suggests. Note on the above picture one of them looks kinda kinked almost... that could also be a cause. Just check everything over. probably nothing serious.
okay, before i drove around for my lunch hour, i tried to check the little thin hoses like in the picture. I didn't see any kinks or obvious cracks or whatnot, the fitting at the T and everything were secure... still doing it...
well i do have some CRC maf cleaner... but i'm at a loss if there's anything else I can do. Is it time to take it in, guys?
