well i think ive ruled out the 04 model...so the search for a clean 05-06 sti is on!

Did the people on here really talk you out of the 04???

Haha, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 04s! It has WEAKER bearing than the latter models. This does not mean they are weak! I drive an 03 (which has the same if not weaker ones), I've autocrossed it, played in the mountains, played on gravel, played on dirt, and have aggressively driven it on the street. And never, not once, have I had any problems with it. Don't let the suspension snobs sway your decision!!!

Lol, all that being said, yes, an 05 or later is a slightly better starting platform. But i wouldn't rule out the possibility of an 04 if the price is right.

its not that they've talked me out of it....but ive done more research between the 04s and 05s.....and for a little bit more, the 05 seems worth it...might as well get the better one right?

Autox really doesn't generate the same amount of heat and stress that a full track session does. I'm sure the 04 bearing are fine for a fast drive or an autox but full on 20 minute track sessions will put ALOT of heat and stress on your car. I've know a few folks that have killed their bearing in 04s after track days; however I don't know anybody that has suffered similar problems for daily driving or autox. Again it's the duration and heat/stress that from track days that seem to hurt the 04 bearings.

Also, doesn't the 04 STi develop more bearing issues than the WRX when tracked because of the bigger brakes?
